That's an awesome price - my 660 was $747 total, but that was back in January, right before the 670 & 680 were released.

That is definitely the best deal so far.
Unfortunately for me, there is no Costco around till next Fall.
But I did like the portable waterproof video camera that they have on thier website, that could come in handy for next years MOTD.

the deal is only on costco.com.... so a local store is not necessary!

Thx.

Has anyone mounted it to the left of the tach. Seems to me it would be easier to see there without taking eyes off the road. I think that's where the dealers put them, so there must be mounting hardware available. I don't know about the wiring however. Do most of you just run off the battery, or do you plug it in?

bjaco,
If there was no drilling into the dash needed, why did you need to remove the dash? Was it to run the wires? And if so, where did the wires go into the dash with no holes?

Wiring

I am about to order this mount, but I have a question for which I haven't found a straight answer.
With this mount, can you hide the wires and run them inside the dash?
How do you do it, please explain or post pictures of how it looks like.
Thanks a lot

Did you end up using the Kuda mount? If not, how did you mount it?

I have a 680 that was mounted to the dash on my previous car but I don't want to use the super sticky tape to secure the mount to the dash of my new Mini. The Kuda mount looks like it will do the job pretty well.

Birdman:

You have to remove the dash so that the Kuda mount can hook behind the dash and speedometer trim to hold it in place. I ran the power wire behind the dash piece and down the steering column. Then I ran the wire back over to the center console. At some point, I'll hardwire in the power.

So, has anybody else tried the Kuda dash mount in the '07? I'm really itching to install my GPS in someplace other than the cup holder where it keeps falling over. Not to mention the fact that it's only possible to see the screen when I'm in 6th gear. Oh, it's also pretty dangerous to be looking down there for directions!

If the Kuda dash mount works I might even get the Kuda mount for my iPod.

For anyone still looking to buy the Garmin Nuvi 660, I just ordered one from Amazon.com at a price of $591.20.

For the time being you can try using the suction cup to stick it to the speedo. I have mine to the far right corner. I think the windscreen has just enough curve to not create a good surface to suction to.

Thanks...
I'm pretty sure that I'm going to order the Kuda mount for my 680 but I'll try the suction mount on the speedo until it arrives.

You must connect your GPS to your computer via the USB cable provided and then go to "Start" then to "My Computer" (If it doesn't open automatically) and look for "Devices with removable storage" and look for the folder named "Nuvi" open it and go to the "Garmin" folder, from here you want to open the vehicle folder and this is where you will paste your new srf files to.
If you want to add image files, you'll want to place them in the file marked "JPEG". Once you have loaded all your new files you'll need to restart your GPS and go to your tools menu (the wrench symbol) then to click on "Map" once this window opens choose the bottom option which should read as Vehicle - Change and the rest is a matter of choice (silver, red you name it).
Hope this helps.

Splash Screen

For the people who have a laser blue/black R56, I made this splash screen for my Nuvi, it looks pretty cool when it starts. I'd like to share it with you. It is for the exact resolution of the 660.

Cheers !

I hope the link works. I'm too lazy now to figure out how to attach a picture here. I'll check later.

OK...
I'm going to be ordering the Kuda dash mount for the nuvi 680 this weekend and I'm wondering about wiring options. The 680 has an MSN receiver in the cig adapter and I'm wondering if it will function properly if I wire it behind the dash using a female cig adapter.

Anybody have any experience with the new nuvi adapters?

Kuda Alternative

If you are skilled with a Dremel tool and/or sensitive to the expense of a Kuda mount and/or want a height adjustable alternative, consider the following DIY solution:
