I have a NUVI 350 and use the beanbag mount placed on the dash. It does NOT slide around and you can position the GPS unit exactly where you want it. You can also adjust the angle of the unit on the holder.

The mount is weighted and flexible enough to conform to the shape of the surface it is placed on. I have driven many miles using this mount through curvy twisty roads and have never had the mount so much as budge. I got it on amazon for about $30.

I really like this option, since I live in CA and you can not mount anything on your windshield here. Also, when I stop and park somewhere, I can shove the mount underneath the drivers seat and put the GPS unit in my pocket or purse. (I find it's easier to retrieve the mount if you turn it upside down before shoving the mount under the seat).

I checked out this thread as I had been wondering if I'd want to go the Nuvi route with the next car and wanted to see how people mounted them and how they worked out that way.

I am one of those people that must have a nav and it sounds like a great device and I hope to see some neat solutions as I still have reservations about always remembering to remove it when parked/put it back on, the fact it adds to projectiles in the event of an accident, and the whole mounting conundrum, esp when you see the vehicle codes about that - http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc26708.htm - that last thing I want is fodder for a ticket.

In any case I'd love to see more pics of how people mount them, even if not in a Mini

NUVI be it 300 series or 600 series is the way to go. Excellent Reception even in tunnells etc. Very Accurate routes. Ivae had many navigation systems before, TOMTOM Magellan and Garmin is the best out there I think. I have the 660. Its widescreen and has a MUCH Brighter screen than the 350 per say which you can see alot clearer in the Daylight. Its worth all the money has tons of features and very very easy to use. GARMIN NUVI !!

I have to agree with kevinminict, and not just because I also have a NUVI 660. I also have owned a TomTom and a Magellean, and of all the ones currently one the market that I've tried, the NUVI is one of the best if not the best. That said, I wish I could download celebrity voices to it like you can with the TomTom, but I'd probably just do that for the grin factor, since I don't leave the voices on most of the time anyway.

I also have a custom MINI avatar/pointer on my NUVI, thanks to some enterprising souls here on Nam, I have the green one with the union jack roof - totally cool!

I use the suction cup on the lower left corner of my dash in my MINI as I mentioned before, but we bought one of the beanbag setups for my wife's Audi and it does seem to work really well - doesn't budge a bit under hard braking or anyting else.

NUVI 660 Mount

Hi,
Im new to the Forum but thought I would share my NUVI 660 mount. It is made from a Dremeled stock Garmin mount. $5 of odds and ends from HomeDepot and a sheet of self adhesive foam rubber from Michael's Arts and Crafts store.
The mounting location is similar to what a KUDA mount delivers but slightly more funtional as the NUVI can move up and down as well as piviting on the ball mount. The wire hides in plain view by snaking around the dimmer button and disappearing into a notch cut into the vent bezzle.
Here are the pics.
If anyone wants the details of how to recreate this themselves, please post your question(s)

Well done

Have you ever removed the mount to see if it marks or indents the dash?

Havent removed it but suspect it will leave an indentation. If I ever sell the car the NUVI will convey with the vehicle.
The R53 is my 18yo daughter's car so the number one priority was uncompromised location/ergonomics. The KUDA mount was too low and its height was not adjustable, it is also a bit expensive. The second priority was aesthetics. I wasn't as concerned with leaving the car with an untouched look after removal but suspect my prototype mount could be optimised for this variable by making the steel bracket looser and using an additional layer of the foam rubber.
I hope the pics inspire others to experiment.

Sweet can you point me in the direction where you got the custom pointer-car at?

Mounted on Windshield

I mounted my NUVI 350 on the lower left windshield. It has been there four weeks and has not fallen off. It has worked so well that I had my audio guy hard wire it for me.

If I park in a less then reputable place, I simply remove it and place it in the secret compartment above the glove box. Pretty simple. Really efficient.

Thanks for your reply, but the question was directed in response to an earlier post by "Sara's Mini" for a Garmin mount for the R53.
