NUVIs have a pretty sensitive antenna. Mine picks up a signal from just about anywhere. I am waiting for Proclip to come out with a mounting solution for the center console.

Put mine in the lower left corner... Put "Add a circuit" in from the fuse box and made the connection through the access door left side of dash. All wires nicely concealed and works great.

Cool new installation for GPS

Check out www.kudausa.com for a new mount system that goes across the dash and offers visual and reception

Not to high jack this thread but are you guys removing the unit (and store it in the glove department/ take it with you) when leaving the car for a certain period of time ? Is it a hassle or has it become second nature ?
Reason I ask, our local news just ran a story today that thieves targeted portable nav systems on public parking spaces like our local IKEA...
I would love to have a stealth install...
Sorry again for chiming in !

I dismount mine and store it out of sight if I'm leaving the car unattended in a less than safe spot - my office parking lot is pretty safe - but mall parking lots, etc. aren't...

I went onto their website and they offer some type of beanbag for the Nuvi, but I don't think it will stay in place I thought about using velcro to mount it right infront of the overhead console, but then you've gotta look up away from the road to often, any other suggestions out there because although I've been used to it in the same place you'd place a radar dector, its a bit more flat. BTW, I've got the Garmin Nuvi 200.

A friend is using one of those "beanbag" mounts in a RAV and is quite impressed with how well it stays put.

Did I miss your pictures. Lower left sounds good. Do you have a link for the 'add a circuit'?

Interesting, I would think you could put the GPS away with your Ipod or other MP3 player, if needed. I would hide mine away in any lot which was not secure.

I'm still just mounting my 350 using the suction cup to the lower right side of the speedometer. I can't see the time on the radio or 130MPH to 150MPH, but I can see the fuel gauge. Not having it attached to the windshield blocking my view or falling off constantly because the window is curved is a cheap solution for me.

I mount my Nuvi 660 in the lower left corner of the windshield after reading that someone else tried it there and I find it to be a great location. The speedo area didn't work so well for me, it seemed to bounce a lot there, and I didn't like looking down that far to see it........

I usually take it off and store it in the left door pocket in the neat cover that came with it, but leaving it on the mount (not powered up) it re-finds the sats faster......

I haven't had a problem with it falling off the windshield...............

Another option and the one I am going with is from Pro-Clip, this one works with the storage compartment as their previous one did not:

I don't have it yet but you should be able to. You need to order the corresponding device mount for your Tomtom. I have a Garmin Zumo and I already have the Pro-Clip device mount for it which has a ball on the end that goes on the Zumo base and allows it to tilt and rotate.

Hay my first post,

I am going to have my dealer install the Mini navi to the left of the steering wheel of my R56. Cost installed is $995.00 Not to bad for a mp3 & nav and I dont have to touch it.

I considered putting mine over there but it's kind of hard to view and operate there, IMO. Keep in mind the nav goes for about $450 at Costco, so you are paying quite a bit extra for a simple hardwire that took all of about 10 mins to do, prob another 5 mins to install Pro-Clip mount.

Just my 2 cents, welcome to NAM and enjoy your Mini.

And the mp3 plays through the stereo I assume just like an iPod via Aux. What input does it use in the Audio menu? An FM transmitter perhaps?

I have the audio out of my Garmin plugged into the aux in on the Mini, so you just switch to Aux on the Stereo and you are good to go. Since it's wired through the aux, no fm transmitter is needed. I also have XM on my Garmin, so I've got XM, MP3's, and I use it's bluetooth for my phone. I really like the setup, haven't had my ipod in the car since I got the Garmin, and it automatically mutes the XM, pauses the MP3's when you get a phone call.

As soon as my Pro-Clip mount arrives I will take some pics. My current setup is using a Ram Mount which works but is way to clunky, but has worked as a substitute while waiting for the Pro-Clip Mount.

I just got a 360 as well...i removed that sticker in the top left of my winshield, cleaned it, and then attached...as I was sitting in my driveway I thought "HMM...If I was in an accident I would not want that unit being thrown by the airbag unit in the a-pillar....So not it is moved to the center of my windshield.

That's a smart thought Newdl. I stick mine to the top right quadrant of the speedo. I bought a Kuda Mount, but think I like it stuck on the speedo better that with the Kuda.
