WOW. Thanks! I just can't imagine forking over $995 to install this thing. Now I can try by myself. I've been reading through it and two things:

1. It doesn't show where the connector from the interface goes into the wiring loom of the car
2. Says it need to be reprogrammed. I don't know if when the battery is disconnected it clears the programming and the dealer has to do this or not.

Anyone?

Nice! Thanks, illeagalhunter. With this, I think it might be borderline worth it to buy the OEM kit for $310 and do the install yourself instead of waiting for the aftermarket ones to start coming out.

Step 7 confirms what I had also been reading on Mini2: this install requires a software update. I don't know if it will work without the update, but I just read on Mini2 that there is an update TO the iPod software available in the UK. I'd rather get the install done professionally and make sure the software is correctly up-to-date, and eligible for future software updates as well.

My dealer installed the IPod kit. Cost $520 and yes there is a software upgrade from the dealer. In my view there is not enough functionality with the upgrade. If you want to play music use can use the aux input. Not very functional but costs nothing extra.

Connection, disassembly of the dash and software update. Anyway your friend can steer us towards those solutions. Local dealers want $995 here.
