Changing start up image and (or) background on Nav system.
I'm gonna receive my new MCS 07, and was wondering if it was possible to change the start up image of the nav system?
Does any one has any info on that matter?
Thanx in advance..

djam43, you caps lock key is stuck....
mrpumuki, With the new nav, I don't think that anybody has had a chance to get into it and make changes like we did with the MK3/4. So, this is fairly new territory for you. I'm sure it can be done, we will just need to get a hold of the firmware upgrades to figure it out.

Indeed... AFAIK, there's no way (as of yet) to hack the nav system in the 2nd gen MINIs since the firmware is not easily user-upgradable like it is with the 1st gen MINIs. It looks like BMW/MINI got tired of folks updating/messing around with the firmware of their nav system and decided to lock it down so that only dealers can flash it.
However, since the firmware in the 2nd gen nav is heavily based on that of the 1st gen nav system (i.e. the MKIV), I'm more than sure that changing the startup splash screen would be easy to accomplish if you could access the firmware. IMHO, it's going to take a program such as NavCoder (which allows re-coding of the nav system in the 1st gen cars) to be able to do anything with the 2nd gen nav's firmware. Maybe some day (years from now I'm sure) someone will write such a program for us all. Until then, the answer to your question is most certainly "no".

You'd be able to search POIs better with the nuvi, but it would be a BIG step backwards when it comes to routing IMHO. I've yet to see any other nav that routes near as well as the OEM BMW/MINI nav does. I run a nuvi side-by-side with my OEM nav systems all the time and the OEM system almost always wins when routing.
