Navigation & Audio Garmin Nuvi acc for MINI

It's a Garmin Nuvi 360, with some minor customizations (MINI-specific 'splash screen', MINI logo silkscreened on the front of the unit, and the option of selecting an on-screen car that looks like a MINI).

I had the parts guy at MINI of Peabody (Dave) digging for a couple of hours for me, looking for that mount. From what he was able to determine, the picture in the accessories catalog is misleading and the mount is the standard windshield suction cup one. If anyone can prove otherwise, he and I both would love to hear about it, especially if you can provide a part number!
There's another thread with some great nuvi mounting ideas. I copied Blimey Cabrio's Panavise bracket mod for my nuvi 370.

Cool thanks for the info. My Ma said it was a garmin nuvi but didn't know the model number. I take delivery of my mini on Sat and I ordered the mounting kit as well. He described to me that it mounts on the side of the tac and comes out to the left or right hand side. I'll take some pics Sat when I pick my Mini up.

How much was the NUVI mounting kit? It is available as a separate part or are you actually purchasing the whole NUVI from MINI? I already have a NUVI 360 and use to suction cup to mount it to the speedometer. It works fine, but if there was a better way to do this, I'd bite. I also want the srf files... If I can get them with any MINI, I found a way to change the car to look like my MINI, with the proper paint color, white roof and mirrors, etc.
Can you post up the part numbers for the kit and also the NUVI itself? I can't find them in my MINI DVD parts catalog...

MINI Part number is 65 90 0 429 399 for the kit. Not sure if the mount is available by itself.

Any news?
Mainly if you have pictures of the mount and if you can measure the distance that is cleared between the nuvi 3xx and the tachometer? (teh nuvi 6x series is exactly 1.0 in wider than the nuvi 3xx - 4.9 x 2.9 x 0.9 inches vs 3.9 x 0.9 x 2.9 inches (WxHxD). So if you can please check if there is > 0.5 in cleared distance between the edges of the mini nuvi and tachometer - than it can accomodate the 6xx series.
And yes - the same lament for the SRF files.... they should be in the nuvi/Garmin/vehicles directory...

Keep in mind that the mount for a Nuvi 350/360 won't accept a 660, even if there's physically room for it between the mount and the tachometer.
The card-edge electrical connector on the back of the 350/360 only has four contacts, whereas the connector on the 660 is much wider and has ten contacts. I just went outside and tried to swap Nuvis between my car and my wife's car (she has a 350, I have a 660), and neither one would even physically snap into the other's mounting bracket, nevermind the connector issues.
I really don't think the MINI Nuvi mount kit is going to be of much use to 660 owners.

We have to see the pictures to see if it is of any help
I know you are right. But what I was thinking (hoping) is that the mount has two parts - a part that ends with the ball and on which the intermediate mount snaps (it's harder to explain - easier if you look at the garmin mount). Anyway - I am close to mount the nuvi 660 on the dahboard right behind the tachometer - quite an accesible place and very visible. Might not fit anyone - but if you are reasonably tall the road viewing is not obstructed. I have the mount and everything - was just waiting to see if the MINI option is better or no. If it is monoblock for the nuvi 360 - I'll pass (I really like the 660). If it is two-piece adapter and the mounting part breaks in two - the sphere + support and the electrical piece - I'll go for that - if not - I'll just custom install the nuvi 660 with the microphone and the external antenna and the traffic controller behind the dashboard.

I'd be interested too. I've got a Garmin Zumo 550 I use for both car and motorcycle. I need to find a way to run the power for it. Currently I have the Zumo, just to the left of the speedo, using the windshield mount to attach to the disk supplied by Garmin which is an adhesive mount on the dash. Location is great but need to run the power cord in a more hidden manner.

I was just at the MINI dealer and I spoke to the Sales Manager, who gave in the following information:
MINI R56 nuvi complete kit - $750
MINI R56 Installation kit only (use your own Nuvi) - $175.
He said insatllation would take 1/2 hour or about $50.
The unit would be wired into the audio system with this installation.
Has anyone installed one of the yet? Any comments?

Ask for a break
Not sure about other dealers, but mine gave me a break on accessories at pick-up day. I was sold the Mini Nuvi for $560 installed(of course, they are waiting for the unit to come in), and was offered other accessories at dealer cost. I didn't even ask for a discount, it was offered to me. Might want to ask your MA before you go to pick up your ride.

Yep - pictures!
The install kit price is a bit steep - 175$ - but might be worth it if it blends nicely. So - if you can show us pictures of the setup (and if you can measure the clearance space between the tachometer and the nuvi - to see if a nuvi 6x0 series device might fit...)

I just picked up my car with the Mini NAV installed. Will take and post pics later today. Suffice to say, the hardwired unit, clean install and mounting brackt were well worth the price to me. I suppose if you can get the unit itself cheaper, this would be a nice way to go.
Mounts to the left of tach on a mount that has a metal arm extending out from the tach. Very solid feel. Base for which NAV clips onto is a swivel unit so you can choose your angel.
The mini units color matches the interior of the car, which I hope will be a theft deterrant (i.e. people think is a hardwired unit that can not be removed).
The NAV itself aint bad. I certainly do like this option over the normal MINI NAV. Just as well intergration and a lot less money. Note I bought my MINI used so the regular NAV was not an option for me.

Thank you for your first impression
I bet you will be very popular soon... Many of us are interested about this solution (and about those so-desired SRF files form the nuvi /Garmin/vehicles directory...)....
However - some more practical questions (I plan to order the install kit for my pre-existing nuvi 660):
- can you see if there is about 1/2 inch clearance between the leftmost edge of the nuvi and the tachometer? (the nuvi 6x0 series are 1 inch wider and same height and depth as the 3x0 units - similar with yours);
- is the audio of the unit already wired in the main audio of the car? Maybe using aux input?
- the power supply is done thru the rear connector of the unit or does it use the USB port?
- is the arm extending or fixed? (I understood that it can be mounted on the left or on the right)
- the mounting is done thru the tach rear screws or is it on the wheel console?
Thank you so much for your impressions, and anxiously waiting for the pictures (no pressure, it's Saturday....)
