Navigation & Audio Rear parcel shelf sub enclosure
This is the first time I've noticed this thread, but I do have to say that I am most impressed... both with the ingenuity of the concept and the quality of the execution thus far. Nice job!
Well it's still progressing. I've been filling and sanding the pin holes to get a ultra smooth finish. It might actually be ready for primer next week. My arm is getting really tired of all this hand sanding.
MY FINGERS HURT!!!
Actually it's going very good, I've put down the primer coat and that is sanded with 600 grit. I've got one more primer coat to go and then I can paint and wrap with carpet. Just need the time to do it.
I've actually got a good collection of power sanders, but for some of the curves in this box I've been having to use small dowels and other stuff to fit the area. So hand sanding it has to be.
Ok here are the promised pics in all their glory and such a lovely shade of primer.
What's left is to sand the primer with 400 then 600 grit sand paper, then prime the top with white primer and sand again in preperation for a white paint coat on the top to match the car. Bottom half will be getting carpeted to prevent rattles and scratches.

It's badass!
That is part of the reason this is taking so much time. Making sure that it is as smooth a finish as possible so that I can make a negative mold from it for replication.
Thanks for all the comments, sort of keeps me going on it.
Wow.
I've been into car audio since I've been old enough to appriciate music, and I can honestly say that this is turning into one of the nicest sub enclosures I've ever seen. I am curious though, how will you mount your amp(s)? It seems to me that those two inset areas on either side of the boot would be ideal, if you had narrow enough amps. And, as you're putting carpet on the bottom half, how will you transition between the paint and the carpet? Will you just leave the ridge? Keep it up! Itching to see a finished product!!

Same for me. It helps in high school that a friend's dad owned the car stereo shop just off campus, so i got in to it very early on. Funny thing is I just saw him again at a party for my friend's 2 year old daughter and realized that it's been 23 years since I meet him and his daughter. Her younger brother, who was 3 when I first met, him is now 26. Makes you feel old.
Amp is going under one of the front seats where the indentation is. I'm running a 4-channel Pioneer Premiere class D so it'll run cool and be very efficient. As for the transition between finishes I just plan on leaving the ridge. Didn't think about it until it was too late to leave a lip for the carpet to stop at. I may make one when I start copying it, as long as it doesn't involve a complete rebuild.
