Navigation & Audio Aux cable for R56?
Aux cable for R56?
Hi All,
Our new Mini arrived in California on the 19th and we're waiting for it to make its way to Colorado.
I got my wife an ipod for Christmas so she'd have it for the Mini. Now were do I get the cable that goes from the ipod to the Aux input?
Thanks,
Mark

Radio Shack is one place. You should be able to find them at most any store that sells audio equipment. It's just a male-to-male stereo audio cable with 1/8" jacks - the same type that headphones use that fit the iPod (and nearly all portable audio device), but on both ends.

We have one on the site also:

iPod 3.5mm to Dock Connector Cable

This allows a low level signal from the dock connector to reach the AUX and not create distortion.

BTW -- I've found using the headphone jack I'm not getting distortion, but it seems like a lower-level signal.
If I decide not to opt for getting the iPod adapter installed at the dealer, I may consider one of these:
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=149006
This integrates a 12V charger with the type of cable shown above.
But I might opt for factory or DICE when they're available instead. Or I might skip it. I find myself listening to the radio much less now, as I like the sound of the car.

Using an aux adapter, my old 2nd gen iPod is set to about 80% of max volume, and the HK head unit input level is set to 5 (of 5). I get great results that way. For any higher quality, I'd definitely need to upgrade to a newer iPod to take advantage of the line level adapter shown above, DICE, or Dension interfaces.
for my '04 with the aux input, I connect my ipod with the Belkin Auto Kit. This connects the audio via a lineout (not a true line out because there is an amplified volume **** within the cigarette lighter plug.......but it sounds fine to me) but also charges/powers the ipod. What I like about the belkin is that I just leave it plugged in 24/7 because when you shut the car off, it pauses the ipod, then after a while, the ipod since it is in pause will shut itself off. It also makes a cleaner connecton as there is just one plug coming out of the ipod bottom for audio and power/charging rather than one wire for audio from the top and one plug from the bottom for power
