Stereo Upgrades

Just got the mini cooper s and I love it, except for one thing. It only came with the stock speaker (not the HK). I want to upgrade it but want to know what other mini users have done/used.

Any suggestions?

Congratulations and Welcome to NAM. Check out this link on Motoring File. Gabe reviews a great sound system. It is pricey however.

Yes ... trying to retrofit the H/K is not a good choice, parts difficult & expensive to obtain, install tricky ...
The DPSM kit *is* designed to be retrofit to a MINI - it's still expensive though; you'll be told that aftermarket installs are much better / less expensive / etc but you have to be careful to choose a good installer that knows what they're doing, otherwise you can get very poor results.

Focal K2P components, had them in my Honda Element with a Sony Mobile ES CDX-C90 head unit and I already miss the sound, the HK system in my now 2 week old mcs just does not compete.

Focal's are a bit pricey, but the sound is phenominal!

I had an Eclipse PA5422 4 channel powereing the front components and back coaxials, also an Alpine MRP-M450 (i think it was) mono amp fo the JL Audio Stealthbox. I traded the Element in for the MCS only 2 weeks ago, and really miss the clarity and punch of that system. My girlfriend thinks that it won't be long before I gut the HK system for aftermaket in the MINI. I am trying my best to hold out on this one lol

Of course I gutted the system out of the Element before trading it in.

I installed a Kenwood sub-woofer under the rear-seat delete, and replaced all the speakers with Infinity Reference. Sounds infinitely better, so I have not yet had the urge to replace the head unit or add an amp.
