Two GPS Questions: MP3 Audio and A-pillar mounting
Hi guys... Can you believe I never knew this forum existed until today?
I've been looking around and I'm debating getting either the TomTom 910 or the Garmin Nuvi 360 because:
Each are well recommended
Each have 3D nav maps
Each have MP3 playback capabilituies
Each have the "good" receiver chips
Can you guys answer some questions based on your experience?
Audio Questions:
1. MP3 Audio - Assuming that both have some sort of audio output into the stereo AUX port, can either device be used as a MP3 player while ALSO doing duty as a GPS? For example, if usiung on the highway, can I be playing music and expect that the device's audible turn alerts will ALSO sound?
2. Capacity - both have around a 20GB HDD, but how much of that is "left over" for music files after the firmware and maps are loaded? I use an iRiver MP3 player currently (20 GB) and all my music still only takes up about 14GB of that capacity, ansd that's every song I currently have ripped.
3. Any capacity for playlists and the like as a MP3 player?
Mounting Questions:
1. Can anyone recommend a good dash mounting solution? I dislike sucrtion cups. My iRiver has a suction cup mount and I wish I had a better solution.
2. A-pillar mounting? Has anyone seen a clip that mounts to the side windsheild pillar?
Thanks in advance!

Found the owner's manual for the Garmin - it will play back .M3U playlist files - sweet! Can anyone confirm of the TomTom has this capacity? I also wonder about how much of the unit's hard drive capacity is left over for MP3 files after maps are loaded.
Thanks!
Thanks!
The Nuvi doesn't have a hard drive - it's all flash memory based. My 350 only has about 700MB left over for user files. I use a 4GB SD card instead. The Nuvi uses USB 1.1 so transferring files to it is slow - so using the SD card I can load mp3s using a USB 2.0 card reader and then pop it in the Nuvi and voila. And it DOES interrupt the music to provide voice prompts, then returns to the music. See this post for more details on how I use it, including the mount.

I've since cut down my mount and blacked out the screw to make it prettier without the GPS installed. And i've installed the newministuff nav interface, but am still working out some kinks with that.
