Missing H/K function? Speed dependent volume...

I was reading through the manual to our H/K stereo and there is a function where the volume can automatically adjust dependent on the speed of the car... ie louder at speed and lower around town... I went through the options on our H/K stereo and it isn't there... what gives?

Is this something that while not mentionned at the dealership only appears if you get the convenience pack with the auto lights, auto wipers, and auto dimming rear view mirror?

The H/K upgrade does not have the boost volume control. The base stereo system does. It is in no way related to the convenience pack.

You might try this with the H/K ... This is how you can adjust the 'GAL' feature you are asking about.

What you can do in the stock radio:

The service mode can be activated within the first 8 seconds after switching on the radio. This is achieved by pressing and holding the “m” button (after 1.5 seconds, the SCAN mode is activated; the M button should not be released until the service test mode is entered. SN****** will be shown). The radio will then automatically switch to service test mode. Switching off the radio deactivates the service mode.

SN,Serial Number
SV-MM,Software Version
RS-OO,Revision Level

GAL ,Selection of GAL Curve <---- this is your 'puppy' (hitting 1 thru 6 on the radio presets while in this mode sets the GAL setting on std radio)

Tuner 1,Setting & Data for the listening Reciver
DSP0 V00,DSP Setting
TP-V,TP Volume Setting (Traffic Report)
Blank Display,Pixel Display Check
Region Set,Country Program
AF Auto,AF Setting

wo... what?

crazy!

it's almost like cheat codes on playstation... i'll try it...
what's the worst that can happen? nothing happens?

how would a feature like that get deleted when you ask for the extra optional radio??? weird...

So how do I navigate from SN to SV-MM to RS-00 to GAL?
Once I've set the GAL setting do I just turn the radio off to record the new setting or do I let it sit and it will revert back to normal mode?

Thanks

Holy Crap! I'm going to have to try this. I never understood why the HK didn't have the GAL feature and the stock unit did (seems backwards).

The GAL in the radio will have no affect on the HK system.

Do you know what the different GAL settings, i.e. 1 to 6 mean. Which one would give the setting for volume based on speed?

The H/K system does adjust the sound automatically, it's just a little more discrete. Here is a little test to do. When you are stopped set your volume, then when you atart driving, the faster the better, turn your radio off then back on. It will reset itself to the level that it was at when you were stopped. I didn't believe it untill I tried it for myself.

I doubt that. Anyway I tried to set GAL to maximum, still can't feel a damn difference. If the effect is so subtle, I'd better take it as if there is no speed sensing volume at all, and find a peace of life.

Doubt all you want. Heck, you even tried it and it didn't work. The speed/sound control is handled by the HK amp and like was mentioned above is very minimal. The GAL in the radio is for the standard system and not the HK.

sorry guys / been absent from this thread for a while...

I am leaving for Monterey Historics within the hour!!!

I don't remember how to step thru the individual settings, but it is intuitive...

I believe that 6 is MORE pronounced than 1.

There are several things you can do this type of "playstation like codes" with. The main car (see MINI2 under FAQ, search for RPM), the integrated climate control has a debug, and diagnostic mode too.

Good Luck!
