Eclipse CD7000 Head-unit?

Hey, guys, please give me feedback for this, if you're familiar. I am specially interested in iPod integration. The GPS is a plus, and it has 6 color illumination to match the OEM.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I always wondered with this "download route to CD then follow it" feature, what happens if you go off the route?

BTW: I'd recommend Crutchfield over Circuit City for information ...

Thanks GBMINI. It's a great website. Everything was clearly explained. I was going to install HK Drive+Play, but this unit looks very good to me and I think I will go for it. I found cheaper at the store below and it's close to me, so I can pick it up. I'll keep updated.

I am also interested in the Eclipse iPod integration. My current Alpine 9833 with the Alpine iPod interface is painfully slow. I understand newer Alpine units have corrected this but the 9833 is very flaky and I feel that the Alpine quality has slid downhill.

Thus I am interested in the speed and functionality of the Eclipse iPod integration before deciding to make a switch.

Thanks-
Randy

I had the CD7000 for a very short period of time in my Honda Element, the problem with that deck is the fact that the face swings way down to access the CD or MS. Also their 8 volt decks are much better for SQ such as the 5000, or 8455.

I ended up buying a JVC KD-SHX850 instead. I couldn't get over the 'Tokyo at Night' look of the current Eclipse line. They used to be clean and simple like the one I got:

still waiting on CarDomain to ship it.....the dash kit is on backorder. <sigh>

hey man, that's not my phrase, that's what the Eclipse sales rep used back in the day when I was in the business. He said that Eclipse was after the clean and simple design, not the flashing lights like all the other brands. Just goes to show you what sells.

Yes this is true, once they changed the model # layouts (such as cd3000, 5000, 7000) it all went down hill as far as aesthetics go. In my last vehicle (Element), I had at least 10 eclipse decks pass through my dash, not joking. The infamous INFO3 error was a real problem. I had the 8443, 8454, 8455, and 7000. The first three were equal in SQ, but I liked the 8455 the best but it only lasted 7 weeks until the display died on it. I called Eclipse directly because I was fed up and they could not replace or repair the 8455, so they offered me the 7000. I hated the thng from day one, sq was inferior to the other models I had, and that huge **** OMG what were they thinking, so I ebayed it after a month. Then I went with a gently used 7 year old Sony CDX-C90 with dual Burr Brown 20 bit D/A's and that deck is truely amazing. I tell you the C90 was the best deck I have ever owned, the stereo image is so real. I have it on Ebay right now for a premium because I don't really want to let it go

I had a CDX-C910. I'd buy another if if had AUX in. It was a perfect design ergonomically and the sound quality was beyond reproach. The last Eclipse I had good luck with was the 5303.

You can add an aux in with the C90 and 910 with an adapter that connects to the unilink bus, people have been known to run IPods and satellite radio direct connect with it. I forget the model # of the box, but they pop up on EBay every now and then. The C90 just sold , I will sure miss it.

I've owned both the C90 and C910. The C90 resides in my Mustang as we speak, although the system isn't working any more (not the HU's fault), and I need to get it fixed.

The C910 was there previously... I think I might still have it in a box somewhere. Both were/are awesome head units. I really miss having CD-Text support when I got my MINI, and I'm disappointed that CD-Text didn't take off more than it did.

agreed. I loved being able to look through titles in the CD changer before blindly selecting a CD.

If you still have the 910 and want to part with it, let me know. My order for the JVC is on hold because one piece is on backorder. It should have shipped last week, but nothing yet. I can help you get the 'stang fixed....I used to do this for a living.

Dan,

I'll try to look around and see if I still have the 910... I am confident I do.

Very generous offer to help with my stereo woes... and I may take you up on it, but it should wait until warmer weather. One of the interesting "nuances" of my car stereo system is that it always had problems starting up in cold weather. It had to do with my processor and crossover pieces, which were "state of the art" showroom pieces at the time they were released, but were never designed very well for real-world uses. I'm talking about the Sony XES system.

My stereo problems mentioned above went far beyond the temperature though, because for some time now, even in warm weather, when turning the system on, I had a horrible crackling mess, no music. It's probably just a loose connection or something, but this isn't my forte, and the shop that installed it all for me in the late 90s is no longer in business.

Edge,

What processor do you have connected to the C90, is it the XDP-4000x? From what I have heard the toslink connecton can be a little flakey, which could be the reason you have problems. Check out www.matronics.com, it is an avation site, but the founder is a huge fan of the c90 4000x and has a section in the forum fot it.

As noted above, it's the original Sony XES system. More specifically, the XES-P1 processor, with the accompanying XES-X1 active crossover. I also have the XES amps (3 x XES-M1... one amp per pair of smaller speakers (tweeter, midrange, rear fill) and 1 x XES-M3 for the subs). Speakers are Infinity Beta.

While I was no big fan of Sony amps, when I bought the XES parts, the stereo shop selling them refused to sell them without the amps, so I had to buy them as a package. With a discrete amp for each channel, and a digital fiber link from the head unit all the way to the crossover, it sounded pretty damn good...

When it worked.

Note: I also have the matching XES-T1 radio tuner and the XES-C1 CD changer, but I never used them.

if I might ask, what shop installed it? I might know of them and a former installer that has XES expertise.

Auto Sound Systems on Rockville Pike (in Rockville MD of course). They didn't sell me the XES stuff though, I brought it to them. I became friends with most of them (at the time) and a frequent customer for a number of things on my car.

I bought the XES stuff from Myer-Emco - they were trying to get rid of them and they had been display models. I bought the Infinity Beta speakers from Auto Sound, and they did the custom install (sub box, mounts for my amps, etc. They also installed some other things like a Clifford alarm system (with remote start and paging!), Valentine 1 wiring, K40 stealth Laser Diffuser & Radar... at the time, I was also living in MD, so there was no legal issue with the radar stuff. I also had them fully Dynamat the car, so that helped a lot with road noise.

Auto Sound's head installer (who did most of the custom work on my car) was Tim Riccardi, and he later bought into the business, but I know that he since sold his share and moved to one of the Carolinas (I forget which one). I'm not sure if Auto Sound is still there - I know they started moving into the high-end home stereo business at one point, and away from cars (since OEM systems have been improving and the market has shrunk).
