Navigation & Audio Nav System Information Screen malfunction
I have about 7500 miles on my MC. The Nav system used to start up very quickly after turning on the ignition, now it takes about a minute. Although all functions for gps mapping seem to work fine, when I now click on the Information screen for information on a destination or address, the system reboots. I used to be able to get info such as restaurants, resorts, service stations, etc.
Anyone else have this problem or know what is causing it?

Hey, Chuckster! First, a slightly belated welcome to MCO!
Second, and more to the point:
I was just having the EXACT same issues - after about 13K miles of everything working peachy. I took it in to the dealer and they updated the software (possibly the firmware, but I'm not certain of that) and it's all fixed.
One problem: I lost my British female and now have an American male. Blah! Besides the novelty being gone, I can hardly hear the male voice over any cabin noise - too much baritone/bass tones that get lost in the surrounding noise. Whereas the lady had a nice crisp tone that cut above the cabin noise.
Anyhow, losing the lady voice proved quite traumatizing for me. The car's name is Molly. I thought she had a sex change. I was crushed. How could I just start calling her a him? After two days of restlessness I figured it out: Molly is the car, not the NAV system. Since I was so rude as to not even acknowledge the existence of the separate entity of the former NAV lady, the MINI gods took her away from me and gave me this man NAV personality so that I would be sure to distinguish the two species. It is worth noting, however, that although Molly and Hal (my new NAV guy) are separate species, they are symbionts.
So, Molly did not have a sex change afterall. WHEW! What a relief!
Anyhow, take it in for service - they should fix you in a jiff!

Thanks John, I'll get it corrected at my next (first) service which should be in about two months.
Gee, you must have been traumatized when you first heard that deep baritone voice from Molly. Glad you were able to figure out who was who.

You might want to find out exactly what they did. I spoke with MINIUSA two weeks ago to find out the status of the nav DVDs, I have a January build MC and was told when I ordered the car that if I didn't have a DVD system on delivery, I would get the DVD mailed to me. So I called MINIUSA to find out if they had an update on the disks and was told I wasn't getting one.... Not only that but I was told that my NAV system was CD based ONLY, I couldn't even buy the DVD. My dealer is working out reparations as this was news to them as well.
However only cars with a March build date will get the DVD mailed to them, cars with an April build date will have the DVDs installed. If the dealer replaced your NAV system instead of updating firmware/software you may be able to get a DVD for your NAV....

mbabischkin Thanks for the positive thoughts.... but I'm certain they did not replace any hardware. Too bad, though! I would sure LOVE to get the DVD based system for FREE under warranty coverage!
Maybe I misunderstand your dilemma, but I have known from day 1 that anyone who got the CD-based system would not be able to use DVDs. I also did not expect MINI to swap out the CD units for the DVD units when they became available - THE COST!
Are you saying that you were told that your Jan. build WAS a DVD system? Sorry if I'm being thick in understanding you.

The samething happened to me, however you can get the lady back, just ask your service place. Unfotunatley it will be an american lady, not british.

Thanks - that is good to know! At this point it is more a matter of me being able to HEAR the voice than which sex it is.... but, I still like the idea of having a lady instead of a guy with me in the car!
My 1/24 build came with a female american lady. I wonder why it seems to be arbitrary whether you get a female or male voice? Anyway, I'm sure they can switch it. The NAV software CD has many voices on it, including the british - so I'd think they could switch back to the british lady as well. No idea if they charge - I find the American female to be great in terms of clarity.
In regards tothe DVD/CD issue - I've heard the new nav system is ONLY a dvd drive instead of a cd drive - no other upgrades. So I'm wondering if one could swap out the hardware (just he cd rom drive) with a dvd drive purchased from some computer shop. I'm not quite willing to try yet though.
