The key here is that you do NOT want to go through the steps of creating a custom burn image. If you have to deal with the individual files, then you're probably not doing it right. You should be able to choose an option such as "burn from image file", choose the file, and it will go straight to the burn process.

Can I assume the above file is the non-British-voice-hack version? Any hacked versions out there, or do I need to burn it to CD, copy back to hard drive, then hack it? Would like faster acquisition, but can't lose my Brit voice!

Drop me a PM.

The image files have been rar’d (compressed), so you will first need to un-rar them. I use a program called WinRAR.
- Once you have uncompressed the image files you will need to burn them to a CD-R using a program called Alcohol 120%, which is available as a free 30 day trial here - http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php
- Burn the disk using a high quality CD-R disk at the lowest possible burning speed using these steps:
1. click on “image burning wizard” then click “browse” and find the folder that you extracted the two files to.
2. click on “bmw v27″ (there’s only one to choose) and click “open” it.
3. Under Image file information, it should list the two files. Click “Next”
4. If you didn’t insert a high quality CD-R earlier, insert it and set the write speed at the slowest one (mine was 4x). Make sure the CD/DVD Recorder is set on the right drive.
5. Click “Start” and it should start burning. Once it reaches 100%, it’ll be done and the disc will eject on its own.
- Once the disk is ready, follow these steps2. click on “bmw v27″ (there’s only one to choose) and click “open” it.
1. Go to your vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the first position. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode.
2. Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!!), go back and eject the navigation CD from your drive unit.
3. Put in the V27 disk you created into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It says it will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade, but it doesn’t take that long. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically.
4. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.
To activate the Perspective view mode with V27 you need to do the following (thanks to 2Wires for this info):2.
- Go to the main menu and then settings. Press the menu button for about 10 seconds until a new menu appears.
- Check “Perspective”. Voilá. Perspective mode is now available.
Worked!!!
thanks everyone for your assistance and advice...here is what I discovered about toast...first...whenn you all were telling me to burn the iso image and toast will do the rest...well that is pretty much true IF I had known to use the "copy" tab instead of the "data" tab...I wasted like 5 disks burning data when i needed to use the other tab in toast...once the "copy" tab is selected, you can then navigate to the iso image, burn it and all is beautiful and right with the world...thanks again everyone...got the update and all seems to be working perfectly...
take care...

The underlying issue here was that none of us had used Toast, and weren't aware of a "copy tab" or "data tab".
I just knew that you had to tell Toast to burn the disc directly from the image file. Image files are just virtual copies of the discs themselves. They are the easiest way to ensure the resulting new disc is exactly the same as the disc that the image was created from... copy protected discs notwithstanding.
FYI - although the Nav OS update discs are not copy protected (why would they be?), the map discs ARE copy protected... have to protect that $199 a pop business!
The nice thing about all of this? Now that you figured it out, the next time that a Mac user asks about using Toast, we'll know what to say! "Use the copy tab, not the data tab!"

Check out X5world for info on this. There are several folks who have this down to a science.

The app released on X5world a few months back that's used to swap the boot image did not work for the Mini boot image. I was able to successfully change the BMW image for my 330 NAV, but the Mini image would get corrupted. Has there been a new or updated program released for inserting a boot graphic into the boot file?
MDSBrain,
Thank you very much for the posts. You helped me on the 26 version. I have no computer skills at my age, but today I proudly followed your instructions, downloaded the extractor and the 120% and made my copy at 4X. All worked, installed it in the car, got the perspective choice, and chose yes.
Setting in my garage , it appears the same as always.
Also, My map DVD is 2003-2
Dows anyone have a 2006 DVD that I could purchase at a discount?
Thanks again, I will check it out of tha garage.

Might have been a bad disc.
