Upgrade H/K amp?

I have a 2005 MCS with the H/K sound system, and I'm trying to upgrade the sound. My first thought was a head unit that I could properly configure and setup to tune my sound, but then I thought about all the stuff I have wired through it -- NAV, Bluetooth, Aux (easy to rewire for new deck, but still), and the steering wheel control. However, my audio is very prone to being underpowered, extremely distorted, and way too bass-heavy. Turning up the treble just distorts it further, and turning down the bass only turns down certain bass frequencies. At first I thought I had a fried H/K amp, but it sounds like this is just the sound quality of the H/K.

So, what is my best option here? Is there an upgraded deck that I can tie all the MINI stuff into? My other idea was to upgrade the amp, which I know would take care of the power problem, and possibly some of the EQ problems, but will it be a miracle fix like I'm looking for? Has anyone upgraded the amp of their H/K system and left the rest of the system alone? Any input appreciated.

Your opening up a can of worms here man...

Basics though...

Your stuck with a stock HU unless you really wanna get down and dirty, and it really isnt worth it.

Good lock getting a different amp in there, because the amp controls the system in and of itself.

Most people i know with the HK add a sub and they are done with it. The speakers your better off not touching, because they are tuned for the car and replacing them hurts the sound of the system.

Like what was stated above, you are going to have issues. First, the speakers are not standard speakers. I believe that they are 4 ohm speakers and the amp is designed to work with them. So, changing the speakers would require a new amp and wiring. However, there is a way to change the HU if you want.

Mikey at newministuff sells an H/K enabler that will allow you to fit an aftermarket HU.

Other than that, your options are limited without rewiring the car.
