Help with AUX install

Okay, I've done a bit of searching and found Greatbear's article about how to install the AUX adapter if you have NAV. So I follow the directions about moving the two pins over to the new AUX adapter and plugging that in place of the old. Now, the NAV voice still works but I still cannot get the radio to recognize when an AUX device is plugged in.

I have an '03 and the headunit with the tapedeck. I also have the 6 disc changer and recently installed the Parrot 3200 bluetooth kit with the wiring harness from Mike at Newmini.

I'm guessing it could be any number of these things that may be causing the problem but I'm not sure where to start so I was hoping to get some helpful feedback.

Any constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, that's a whole lotta ICE!
I've got NAV/Aux, but not the rest of what you're packing...

First thing to check, if you're confident in the install, is if a group loop isolator(GLI) would change anything. The HU is really finicky when it comes to signals coming from the AUX input. It seems that if you are powering a device from the cig lighter and have it plugged into the AUX input, it is pretty much a hit-or-miss as to whether or not the HU will pick it up.

GLIs usually fix this problem.

I'm pretty sure the problem is your HU... AUX+ HU with Casette don't mix. It needs to be the HU with CD...

I wasn't powering the MP3 player through the cig lighter. It was just running on battery at the time I was testing it so I'm not sure if the GLI will help. I would get one just to try but I don't want to spend anymore money chasing red herrings as I think what mbabischkin said about the HU w/ cassette may be the problem.

Unfortunately, I think what you say rings true. So given that, short of swapping out the HU w/cassette to an HU w/CD does anyone know of any other way to get an AUX input into the HU w/cassette?

Do you use the cassette, or just don't want the expense of swapping HUs?
Given all the toys listed, I'm guessing it's the former...
They come up regularly on ebay - you can even upgrade to the '05 with non-miniscule volume button and MP3 capabilities.

You would probably have to look at an option from Blitzsafe they might have something that would work, there's no OEM solution to your problem other than replacing the HU with one that has a CD player in it...

I've used the cassette in the past for some Pimsleur German language tapes but honestly, I haven't used it in about a year.

I find your suggestion about the '05 HU intriguing especially if it will play MP3s. Would you happen to know if the '05 will just pop in and work or will it require a new wiring harness/harness adapter? Do all HU's have the proper ports in the back for the NAV?

The cassette headunit, regardless of model year, is not compatible with the Aux connector, unfortunately. All of the headunits are interchangeable. A '05-later mp3 headunit would be a nice choice, espeically if you can locate someone selling theirs cheaply after upgrading to aftermarket. All factory HUs have the Nav capability.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'm in the hunt for a compatible HU now.

BTW, your write-up for the AUX install was excellent, thanks!

I havent looked at it in a while, but I think I might have to repost the pictures I once had there. Since the upgrade of the forum software, I think the old gallery was wiped out, along with the pics.

Greatbear already answered, but I'll be a post ***** to confirm that an '05 will pop right in. I've put an '04 into an '02 (for Aux ability) and an '06 into my '04 with Nav ('cause I'm a geek and want to be able to play MP3s (though I don't have any) and I like the '05+ knurled **** even though I rarely ever touch it since I use the MFSW )
