Dension Icelink Woes

I'm writing to let everyone know of my dissatisfaction of the Dension Icelink plus.

When I originally purchased the unit all went fairly well. (Purchase date 02/04). There was music via Ipod!
Dension made provisions for firmware upgrades. This is where my unit failed. After updating, the unit it no longer worked.

I made contacts to Dension via email, their replies never got the link to work.

I placed many phone calls which no one returned the calls.

Dension did send two replacements which would not work.

Though they have somewhat tried to help I get none of the support which would do the trick. My last and final call broke the camels back.
After being told by a their tech that the unit should work, his conversation basically left me feeling like he was telling me, "I was an idiot, and should find an installer".

With four plugs and no need to even pull the radio, I feel pretty competent that I could do the installation, but when the unit shows sign of working but does not, i'm pretty satisfied that it is a faulty product and not me. The interface is not there. The only thing happening is I can see the Icelink display in my Ipod, no ability to control whatsoever and NO MUSIC!!

Bottom line, if you want to take your chances, as I did, with a product that might work but then again may not, go ahead. I've noticed enough posts here to see that Dension is far from the answer for our Ipods.

It's just a guess, but it would be my guess that you have sent the display from the IPod to your head unit that may not be capable of displaying ID3 tags. This essentially makes you "blind" to the IPod controls since you can't see them on the IPOD and you can't see them on the head unit.

At the Dension webpage, you can download a patch called "no text" to revert back to IPOD display. You play it like playing a song, and while it's playing, you insert the IPOD into the cradle or cable of the Ice Link>+

Have you rebooted your IPOD? Depending on model, you press and hold certain buttons simultaneously (for 3rd gen. IPOD's, it's MENU and SELECT together).

Good luck to you!

I just sent mine back a few weeks ago and am waiting for a replacement module. Mine would force the ipod to reboot almost everyday and at random times. It was also causing strange electrical problems with my blinkers and airbag/seatbelt warning lights. I bought it this summer and it was running 2.01 or 2.07 firmware. When I bought it I was under the impression that the firmware was upgradeable, but I was trying to upgrade to 2B1 last month and couldn't find it anywhere. The DensionUSA site says they are no longer offering firmware updates now. I wasn't very pleased to find that out. I'm hoping this new module will work right.:impatient

firmware v 2.b2 looks like the current version at densionusa's download site.
doesn't look like v 2.b1 is downloadable anymore.

Ok, so I'll try the no text thing one last time.

I haven't hurled the Icelink in the bay yet.

it's funny my 2004 no display h/c system worked alright with no added problems before I tried to update.

I've just gotten so tired with trying to fix something that should really be plug and play.

By the way has anyone used another form of connection other than a FM modulator or the Mini Cooper 1/8" phono plug connector?

I've seen one by Blitzsafe and it's way cheaper than Icelink too. For my car it would function the same way. There's a guy on a blog that made one himself also. Bravo to him.. at least he could blame himself.

From your latest post it definately sounds like the text display got turned on. Hopefully you'll get this sorted out.
