DC Metro MINIs News and Information

Hello DC Metro MINIs Members!
As the old saying goes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, and given the weather last week, that saying seems pretty true. But as the weather warms we can once again look forward to hopping in the MINI, opening the windows, popping the sunroof, or for our new convertible friends dropping the top and going motoring! And as the weather warms up we can also look forward to another great season of fantastic events from DC Metro MINIs!

But before we get to the really fun stuff, I need to discuss some club business. First an apology, the club's by-laws specify that we should have an annual business meeting in March of every year. Unfortunately other commitments got in the way and I was unable to line up all of the details needed for a March meeting. The Board has approved postponning the meeting until April in order for everything to be taken care of in advance of the meeting. Details on the meeting a little later in this message.

As I have said throughout the year, DCMM NEEDS YOU!!! The terms of three Board of Director's will be expiring this year. The most important of these positions is the Treasurer positition currently held by Mark Vaughn. Mark is one of DCMM's founding members and he has done a fantastic job as the club's treasurer since it was founded two years ago. Sadly Mark has announced to the Board that he will be stepping down from his position as treasurer when his term on the board is up and will not be seeking re-election. Mark's diligence and hard work will be sorely missed.

In addition to Mark's position, the term's of Mike Whitley (currently an at-large Director) and Deb Sutliff (currently acting Secretary) are expiring this year. Both Mike and Deb have announced their intentions to run for re-election to the Board.

If you have any interest in running for a DCMM Board Position, or if you would like to nominate somebody for a Board Position, please let me know especially if you are interested in the Treasurer position. I'd like to have the slate of candidates put together by April 1st.

In other news, at 6PM on March 16th MINI of Towson will be hosting their third MINI Night. While I've never been to one myself I've heard that Towson's MINI Nights are very impressive. Previous MINI Nights have attracted well over 100 cars, and attendees have been treated to some impressive surprises at last the last two events. At one attendees got to see one of the first MC-40's to hit US shores, and at another attendees got to meet Jack Pitney, General Manager of MINIUSA.

MINI of Towson has also announced that they will be extending a 10% discount to all DCMM members on parts and service when you show your DCMM Membership card. Keep an eye out for more news from MINI of Towson as DCMM expands our partnership with them in the coming months. Plans are under way for a variety of events to be put on with the help of MINI of Towson.

Save the Date! Plans are in the works for our first drive of the season on March 27th. The details are still being worked out but as soon as they're finished we'll get everything up in the Club's forum on North American Motoring.

April 2nd is our next Tech Day at Glenelg Service Center. This time we'll be doing a car wash and BBQ. The lecture will begin at 11 and the car washing will start at 11:30, with the grills being fired up at the same time. This event will be $3.50 for members and as always payment via PayPal is preferred. All of the details including what to bring along can be found here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38415

Our Annual Meeting will be Sunday April 17th. We'll kick off the day with a Scavenger Hunt and end it for lunch and the meeting will be at the House of Dynasty at 7550 Telegraph Road in Alexandria. The details on the Scavenger Hunt are being hammered out now, but lunch will be at 12:15 at the House of Dynasty, there will be a special menu just for the club and lunch shouldn't be more than $9.95 per person plus tax and tip. It is important that you come out to the meeting as the Board member positions will be voted on by the membership during the meeting. As soon as the scavenger hunt details are finalized, there will be a thread started on NAM. This will be a members only event, the only charge will be for lunch.

Finally, I mentioned in my e-mail to the club before the holidays that I was researching a group buy on the Dension ICELink Plus iPod adapter. Due to numerous reports of problems with the ICELink Plus and the MINI, especially with HK sound systems I've decided to not pursue this further. While it appears that the latest firmware update that has been released for the ICELink has made it more reliable, I'm just not comfortable with the quality of the product at this time. I do have some other ideas for a possible group buy that I'm looking into right now.
