New iPod Adapter?

I think I read somewhere that Mini came out with a new IPOD adapter with more functionality than the old one. Does anyone have any information on this?

Rumor has it that the new IPOD adapter will be more like the Icelink Plus. I was told by my MA and the German BMW dealer that this would be available in early 06. It was being replaced due to many issues with the old IPOD adapter.

I didn't want to wait, so I bought the Icelink Plus for my 06... Works like a champ.

National backorder

I went to the dealer yesterday to get an AUX input and he said that the AUX and ipod adapter both are on national backorder. Not sure if it's purely demand in both cases or not but it made me think of this thread, maybe they've ramped down production in anticipation of the new one?

Do a manual reset of your iPod. Problem fixed.

My dealer has not been able to either deny/confirm this new "updated" version of the OEM iPod adaptor. I have extremely reliable sources there but nothing yet.

I hope MINI offers a free firmware update to enable song title display in the headunit for existing iPod adaptor owners.

I just had the iPod adapter installed yesterday after waiting nearly two months due to a "national backorder". I asked if it was due to an upgrade of the adapter or new technology and was told that it was just due to demand.

I have tried every which way to revive it. Blank screen. Buttons don't do anything. MINI service rep says I 'shorted' it.

Regarding the dead iPod... If for some reason you plug the iPod in to the adaptor while the car is off but the radio is on it will screw up the iPod. When you remove the iPod it never goes back in to the normal iPod mode and the controls on the iPod do nothing. The fix is simple, plus your iPod back in to the module and start the car, turn on the radio and turn off the car normally. Then unplug your iPod.

This happened to me at the dealership, when reviewing the iPod adaptor on another car and we were both boggled as to why things wern't working properly!

I did as you suggested but I still wasn't able to get it to work. The Genius at the Apple Store however, got it going, restored the software and advised me to charge it before reloading it. Everything's OK now, thanks!

Did you try holding down the "menu" and center buttons for six seconds?
