JD Power and Associates Nav Survey

Just got a JD Power and Associates Nav Survey in the mail today. I find the 2nd line very interesting. "As one of the few consumers who actually have a navigation system in their current vehicle, your experiences and insight regarding these system will assist manufacturers in the future design of not only navigation systems but other new technologies in the next generation of vechicles." They also gave me 1 dollar, so if I get 1799 more surveys I can pay off the Nav system.

You'll need a few more surveys to cover taxes.

Given your comments thus far, it may be that MINI rips the whole nav system out after receiving your feedback!

I received one of those JD Powers nav surveys for my MINI as well.

After filling it out (all six or so pages of it), you really do get an idea of just how much stuff the MINI's nav system has to offer. If they could just clean up/enhance the POI stuff a bit and add in a true 3D view, I'd be a happy camper (a touch screen would be nice as well, but hey, beggars can't be choosers now can they ).

$1800 ain't a beggar...

I think mine was $1600 in 02, don't really remember, but if that's the fair for begging, I'm quitting my job!

Navi - no touchy

--Yeah I agree, for $1600 to $1800 a touch screen would be the least they could do. I mean a new IPAQ is less than $600, and it has a color touch screen, and a processor and storage to run much more than a GPS navi. Just my $0.02.

ok

Just got finished filling this out. Only thing I really gave this system a bad rating for was the whole control system. The 1 ****/button just annoys me.

I did like the question where it ask if you'd pay 750 bucks for lifetime upgrades of maps. And the question where it asked how much you would pay for POI updates.

I don't know where you guys got that the cost of the MINI Nav system is $1800. It's $1700, even on 2006s. A $100 jump from the original price, not $200. Sure, it's still a lot, but at least make sure the information is accurate.

Here's my survey response.

I got the survey, too.

I rated most of the system positively, but mentioned three negative topics:

1 - Like others, I find the whole control system less-than intuitive. My manual is very weak, and my MA didn't know anything about the Nav at delivery. I learned to use all the details of the system from forums like these.
Using email shouldn't require passing an MCSE exam, and
an ideal Nav system shouldn't involve a lot of independent study.

2 - Like many others, my MA specifically promised one free DVD map upgrade. In other words, I wouldn't be paying $1700 for 2003 data that came with my '05 MCS (delivered Oct 2004). But none of these promises from MiniUSA's sales staff were honored. We're stuck with either a $220 opportunity at NavTech, or the ethically questionable task of discovering how to copy map DVDs.
(Perhaps that's MiniUSA's best effort at support: leave us hanging on dishonored pledges from their sales staff, to help us justify/excuse the acquisition of map DVDs with hand-written labels.)

3 - If JD Power can track me down for my opinion, why can't Mini track me down to inform me of updates (NAV O/S and map data)? At my first service, the SA had no knowledge of either, and both were updated by then.
