Antenna performance question

Could anyone recommend a high performance antenna from experience?

I'm not too concerned with looks. I've seen antenna debates before, but I'd like to start one anew, with performance in mine.

My MCS antenna worked okay, but my wife works @ a honda dealership and got my the S2000 stubby for free. While the stubby looks okay, the performance is considerably less than my stock antenna.

If I can't find a high performance antenna, I may be force to spend a hundred bucks plus a subscription for XM, which isn't something I'd like to do unless I have to.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Wagn... I got a MiniMania stubby from Towson several months ago and see absolutely no difference from that huge OEM antenna. Then again, in our area, there are many radio stations ..

As to XM, spring for XMDirect. XM rocks. Ever since we got it installed, my wife NEVER listens to CDs or FM again.

I've heard pro and con about Honda's 2k antenna when installed on a Mini. So I wonder if in some cases it's about proximity to the radio station.

But can anyone tell me why my Mini doesn't get many of the stations, AM or FM, that my kid's Sentra does even when he's parked right next to me in the driveway? BTW, same story with my 99 Jetta.

Arrgh !!!

My car has the GPS system installed so the antenna is a mesh system in the passenger side rear window. The reception is marginal at best and I live in the middle of a lot of very strong radio stations. I have to think that even the stubbies would do better than what this set up does.

I bought a cheapo on Ebay that has now gone in my pile of misc parts. It was 3.5" long and very short and so was its reception. I have put the stock antenna back on and will probaly use it till I pick up the Alta stubby. The Alta stubby like their other products is high quality and said to provide reception as good as stock.

I used the antenna that came with my car for about a year and than got a stubby. Frankly I cannot tell any difference between the two:smile:

I had the roof anteanna on my '05 ripped completly off - base and all. Since it also has an internal antenna - it didn't even make a differernce.

You might try what I did. I removed the little rubber tip from the top of the shaft, by inserting a small tool, and working it around till tip can be removed. I then cut the shaft down to my desired length, and installed the tip back on with black silicon adhesive. I measured the depth of the tip and cut the shaft to that length. I was also very careful to leave some of the wire that spirals around the shaft. How does it work. Fine. There is some lost of reception of Public Radio only. Also, I have not driven the car to remote areas yet, just around town, so I can't tell you results of long distance reception. Good luck.

Yeah, but I'm not thrilled with stock reception either. Was hoping for something better performance wise. I'm trying to get WHFS in Baltimore, which I could from my camaro, but I only get about half of the transmission from my Mini stock antenna, and almost none with the stubby.
