Shorty Antenna Offerings

There seem to be a number of vendors that are offering shorty replacement antennas. Based on the descriptions of each vendor, the antennas all seem to be the same - slightly different look, but nothing special that separates each of the products. The vendors that I have reviewed seem to offer a product that is just a shorter wire antenna. Which in the extreme, means that the reception will suffer. Does anyone have some more information that they can share that would help me decide one way or the other?

Hello, you reception will not suffer. I know of several people running around with no antenna at all and they still get every station very clear. I am running the Alta short antenna and never had a problem with it except when took a west cost trip and was out in the middle of no where (the Grand Canyon area), but there was also no radio to pick up. If you live near any major city you will be just fine. It all comes down to looks in the end. Good Luck.

Go to the nearest Honda dealer and pick up an S2000 antenna and be done with it. Around $18.

The S2000 antenna is better designed for FM compared to the factory antenna, which is better at AM than the S2000.

I tried

the Ultrik antenna from MiniMania and it was horrid. I got reception on 1 out of like 10 of my normal stations. I live in the DC metro area so its not like I'm in the middle of no where. If someone finds a really good one I'd love to know.

Reception

Hope I'm still on topic here, but, what does the sensitivity rating of the head unit mean? I'm looking to replace my head unit and find that Alpines are rated '9' and Pioneers '8' for fm sensitivity, lower number being better. Does that matter more than the antenna? AM stations are a problem too.

Has anyone been able to improve either?

shorty

Hi.
I use the Shorty Antenna from MOSS ( http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...74&SortOrder=1 ).
I tried several of the short antennas, amog them Alta and the reception was inferior compared to the OEM version. I listen to NPR a lot and the reception in my area (Princeton, NJ) is ify at best. My location is between New York and Philadelphia. Both have NPR stations byt reception of both in Princeton is spotty.
The best reception I get is from the Moss antenna. As far as I can tell, it is the only one that is a rubber covered coil antenna. Most of the others are only a machined aluminium billet. Moss sells it for $ 24.

A quick phone call to the local Honda dealer's parts department seemed to confirm that the S2000 antenna is also a coil based antenna - the parts dept. person stated that the S2000 antenna was a coil wrapped around the antenna core. I think I will try the S2000 approach first; if it fails, then Moss Mini would seem to be Plan B. Thanks to everyone for your input.

I really like the look, but don't know anyone who has tried one.

Hey guys, I need an antenna replacement because someone stole my antenna and the base piece as well. Currently all I have is a giant screw sticking out of my roof (incidentally, the sound quality of the reception has not changed). How can I fix this?

I must be one of a few that finds the stock antenna to look just fine. Maybe I'm just weird.

I actually looked for a longer antenna before I got the Honda unit. I thought I'd maximize the R/C car effect, but I couldn't find an antenna with the correct base. I think a big ol' CB whip would look cool.

I like the standard one just fine as well. I have seen too many reports of problems with reception that I have given up on changing it. What I want is one with a little led at the top (seen those on race cars in Europe)
