Radio on after shutting car off, randomly turns off

OK, I'm not sure if these are related to the Dealer's Ipod adaptor install, or another glitch or some weird design feature.

I picked the car up tonight, and it turned off after hitting a few sharp bumps. It did it three times in an hour.

It also is powered independant of the key position. Shouldn't it shut off with the car??

Also - with the ipod adaptor - is the ipod supposed to stop playing when you turn off the radio? Mine isn't - I'll get in after an hour and it's gone on playing!

Need help - radio wire question!

OK I have a theory. Short story, I picked up the '05 yesterday, it has the H/K and the mini adaptor.

The radio doesn't shut off with the car, and shuts off every 30 min while driving. The iPod when attatched doesnt' stop, and actually locked up after a few hours while I was at work.

My theory is the radio isn't sensing ignition switch position. It's acting like the car is always off, and when I turn it on while driving, it still thinks the car is off, and shuts off after 30 min accordingly. It also doesn't know I turned the car off, and hense stays on. Is there a wire in the back for this that may be disconnected, possibly during the adaptor install? I really don't want to take it back and go through all that hassle if I can fix it myself.

Help?

It sounds like your +12 VDC ignition wire is no longer connected to the radio. Because it is a harness issue, I would take it back to the dealer, if only so that it gets put back in the right spot. Some amphenol plugs have more places to put wires than is necessary for the radio. That is my educated guess on what your problem is.

If you're feeling brave, go ahead, pull the head unit out, and look for exposed wires. If you see one with a silver metal end (crimped onto or soldered onto the end of a wire). If you just see bare wire, take it back to Mini. If you can't be certain of where the connector goes back into the plug, take it back. Good luck.

(EDIT)
I didn't realize you double posted. Sorry for the double answer....

Take it back to the Dealer. Something is not right with the install. It looks like this isn't an isolated incident...

New member here... I just picked up a 2010 S. Radio has this same 20 minute shutoff issue. So I am going to take a look at the wiring harness as suggested. Do I need to pull out the entire center console to get access to the back of the head unit? Or is there a shortcut to get to it?

Thanks.

Suggest you repost in the Gen2 section. Your car is 4 years beyond the tin tops and 2 years past the rag tops of Gen1.
