Hk

A couple of simple questions I didn't think were worthy of the audio section.

1. Where are speakers 7 & 8? I only see 6 speaker covers. 2 in rear, 2 in doors (low) and the 2 tweeters (high)?

2.What's up with the speed sensitive volume? I know this has been posted on before...but, it's now being advertised on the Miniusa site, and it's in the instruction booklet my MA gave me about the radio. Your access it via the musical note key. I've tried it but the option never appears on the head unit display when its supposed to. It just cycles onto something else. My car is 9 days old, so it should apply to it. Yes? I'm gonna call the dealer on Mon.

Any help or comments.

The front lower speakers are probably 2 way speakers, thus accounting for 7 & 8 (if they aren't, the back ones are). I dumped a sub-woofer in the boot, so I've got 9.

Unfortunately, unless they've changed it, the speed sensitive volume feature does not function in the HK system, only in the standard sound system.

Ok, but the Mini sight specifically mentions the speed sensitive volume as part of the upgraded system. Under the regular system, it isn't listed.
What do you mean by 2 way speakers? Like bipoles? Doesn't seem like that would be the way to go with these since they are fairly small to begin with.

I have the HK and the speed sensitive volume is automatic and very gradual.... and you will never find anything in the manual on the HK system.

Here is a full write up and it is very helpful:

This thread moved to audio.

For H/K
8 speakers-
2 in the rear- one on each side
2 midrange in the front lower doors- one each side but not two way.
2 Co-axial speakers in each front door near the door pull/latch- this is a small tweeter and co-axial small midrange speaker- so a total of 2 speakers in this tweeter location for each door=4.

My H/K manual specifically shows the speed sensative volume settings and how to adjust it. It is not present on the radio, however Nav volume is (also detailed in the H/K manual). Pretty stupid since I don't have Nav.

I would LOVE to know what the mounting dimensions are for this speaker location ! Also, what is the impedance of all the speakers? Thanks.

Hey Ian..GREAT WEBSITE!

I had no idea that one is yours! (newbie) I always go to motorfile first when I'm MINI surfing to find out the latest news...then here for the latest MINI-related scuttlebutt. You are also the guy that invented the cool DSC-off and garage door opener circuit...which everyone should have and I don't because I'm still too afraid to take a screwdriver after my still new MINI .
I'm finally beginning to figure out who's who in this MINI family.

Doug ... wander round GBMINI.net; there is heaps of info there! For example:

The bottom "woofer" door speakers are 2 ohm.
Each coil of the rear 6x9 "sub-woofer" speakers are 2 ohm.
I don't think impedance is relevant for the mid/tweeter combo - anyway I don't believe the speaker is marked.

Ok, I had heard the drivers are 2 ohm ... Well, what I was thinking, was using the Morel Integra 4's in place of the HK mid/high unit ... wondering if I could get it any where near fitting inside that mounting position.... so, the impedance would be important, if it is a 4 ohm unit (not likely, since the other speakers are 2 ohm), then it would probably work out fine... Make sense? But I still do not know what the mounting depth for this location is :(
