Navigation & AudioAudio upgrades, bluetooth, and navigation discussions surrounding the Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
At well less than half what the HK amp costs, this is an appealing option to resolve the last remaining inop part of the car.
Have read it's not quite a plug & play option, and requires it to be tuned.
Anyone knowledgeable on how involved the tuning is? I'm not looking for audiophile quality, just good functional audio, without shelling out $1k for the HK amp.
I like the idea of DSP4086, but you are right it does require some skill to set it up properly, otherwise you are just waisting its potential.
If all you're aiming for is a functional audio, think about installing a pair of small class D amps right after the head unit.
There are plenty of options out there that are compact, affordable, intuitive and most likely better than the stock Harman Kardon setup.
Ideally, I'd want as close to plug & play as possible, and rather not need to pull the dash either. But yeah, I've currently got no stereo due to a dead HK amp [99% sure], so something that can work in its place, ideally in the same location [under driver's seat?] would be great.
It's my daily, with no backup [until I get my Midget back on the road], so something that can be done in a few hours would be ideal.
I just realized that your stock wiring might be very different with mine. So I'd say "under the dash" way will not work for you. You have to put the replacement right instead of your dead amp which is not super complicated, but still tricky enough wiring job. It's doable within a few hours, but only if will get yourself well prepared.
Well, the more I think of the nuances the more I am sure that JBL is a great option for your case. Filters, delays, gain control, EQ.. to learn how to set it up to your liking will require some time, but I'd say it worse it. Sorry)
That's the part I am unfamiliar with, tuning the DSP.
Assuming it fits in that space [another member or two on here has used this one, but they're not active anymore from what I can tell], and doesn't require significant rewiring.
I replaced the HK amp with this - as well as took the initial tuning sessions posted on a different thread as my starting parameters and tweaked them. Once you have the software down - it is not to bad. I have some on line videos I can share
Depending on your application - you might want to rcas or speaker level inputs.
Let me know if you are still looking for input
