Double-Din install plus EXTRAS!

So I wanted a double-din and after doing a bunch of research without much info I just dove into it. I realized soon that it's best to replace the aging/ugly oem navigation too so I went with a Droid Maxx2 I had laying around. Here is the result!

No issues removing screen at all...it's all 1 unit. No codes that I can see or scanned with a obdii reader.

Looks great! Where's the write-up? How did you do this? Did you drop the toggles and HVAC control down to the very bottom of the stack to make room?

Details on the device you used to replace the NAV screen?

There are a few of these double DIN installs in NAM. Few has posted the installation photos except the final product and only not too closeup shots. Like cosmetic surgery it is best not to poke your nose too close during the operation. A bit of hacking and courageous cutting is required. If your are skilled and resourceful the result can be better than buying one of those fancy single DIN double DIN display unit. If you are a bad hack, the result can be a loosely mounted mess that is the center console.

Here's a little "Tip"...no matter what you do you will have to hack at least 1 of the leg on the HVAC gear thing. I've read some hacked off 2 legs (which imo would make that thing unstable). I only hacked of 1 leg and modified the back of my radio...this trick probably saved a bit more hacking to the HVAC that I would otherwise have to do. And Of course I covered up the electronics.

Have not experience that..I have an app that put the phone to sleep when power is off and turns phone on. Apparently that app is no longer available on the Play store?

yes llama thats the one i used. As soon as ignition off phone sleep mode...ingition on phone on...
My problem started in the summer last year, phone gave a warning about temperature and sometimes shutdown on long journeys... I may install a small pc fan behind it to take away some of the heat.
Works grewat though with a bluetooth obd and Torque pro...at least you know what the temperature is doing!!!

Yeah...I haven't experience overheating...I don't see why it would unless there's some cpu intensive app running? Torque doesn't seem that bad but then I've only driven the car to work and trips less than an hour.
