So if I understand it correctly there are now two cables for the MINI:

The SLD 00 and 01. What are the differences between these two cables? Is it that the 01 has an aux input and the 00 doesn't.

I'd kind of like to buy an aux jack for my 03 MCS w/ H/K. I'll likely call sometime in the next few days, provided I can still get in on the "sale"?

Hope it's a cinch to install.

Keeping fingers crossed.
The only thing you may have trouble with is finding the connections in the "boot" as you Mini guys call it. Other then that everything should be a piece of cake. You can call us for any technical assistance.

The difference between the SLD 00 and 01 is that the 00 is just the SkyLink Direct Interface. The 01 allows for retetion of the factory cd changer, or you can use any one of our other Mini interfaces.

You can use the SLD 01 along with our MINI/ALP DMX V.1 to control an Alpine m-bus changer, the MINI/AUX DMX V.1 for an aux. audio input, or the MINI/ALP DMX V.1D to have both the changer and the audio input along with the XM Direct.

Everything was a piece of the proverbial cake this afternoon.
Actually, finding the connection was the easiest part.
Connecting the plugs took no less than a minute.
Running the antenna wire down through the panels required a bit more work- 5 minutes. (only because the damn wire is so long I kept tangling it.)

Because of my impatience, what took the longest was waiting for the activation. (I did that online.) After about 20 minutes, it was up and running. I even have my 18 presets in place!

Thanks for posting the offer.

Anyone who's still leary like I was at first, don't be. The XM-Direct box & Blitzsafe adaptor work great!

Marc,

Please clarify. I have an '03 Cooper S, with the HK h/u. I've been waiting for the SkyLink so I can have a removeable receiver. Questions:

I need the MINI/SLD 01, yes?
I need the SkyLink, yes?
I don't need a car kit, right? (power is supplied by the SkyLink?)
Do I buy an antenna separately?
Which receivers does, I mean WILL the SkyLink support - SkyFi, SkyFi2, Roady, Roady2?

Thanks.

Why don't you guys just order the MyFi right now. This will do everything you want it do. It is a mobile receiver with car kit and cradle. I'll assume you can interface this with the SLD01 for control using the steering wheel.

And we all know what happens when you assume. I wonder if Marc can respond with what devices are compatible with the SLD 01 and/or the SkyLink. We'll let him finish his turkey first.

This is how things break down.

The Mini/XM SLD 00/01 is the interface specific to your vehicle.
The SkyLink Direct is the actual cradle in which you house the SkyFi unit in your vehicle.
The Delphi SkyFi unit is the XM receiver.

The SkyLink Direct Cradle and SkyFi unit are generic so to speak, or universal would be a better term. You can use them with an vehicle that we make a SkyLink interface for. Right now the cradle is seeing some last minute changes, but the vehicle specific cables for BMW/Mini are available now. I am not certain if the antenna will be included with the SkyLink Direct Cradle, as you receive one when purchasing the SkyFi unit itself. All the XM antennas use the same connection, so I do not see a problem there. I have not been given a definite release date as of yet on the actual cradle. I am anxious myself for one. As soon as I get one, you guys will be the first to know.

skyfi 2

Will this skylink direct product also work with the Delphi Skyfi 2?

Thanks.

So, to break down our options here:

1. Buy the original XMD101 with Terk Box as a package from BMW? Song displays on your radio and you are able to control with your steering wheel but is not portable. Not too sure of price or where to obtain.

2. Buy the SkyFi and the car kit to use with aux-in and of course no control with steering wheel and songs are displayed on your SkyFi, but not on your HU. This is the least expensive route.

3. Purchase the new SLD01, the SkyFi cradle, and the SkyFi so that you have everything that #1 offers, but you also have another gadget to install in your car and remove each time for portability's sake. This will also be undoubtedly the most expensive option. I suppose if the SkyFi/cradle were in the cockpit, I would be more inclined to use the SkyFi's controls and not the steering wheel's control nor the HU's controls, thus negating the added "convenience" of this option. I'm sure there is much more to this I'm missing....

So the SLD 01 would be $180, given the 20% discount. What will be the approximate price of the SkyLink Direct? I hope not too much or this XM solution is getting pretty pricey, just to have h/u display and steering wheel controls.

Carl,

The one you want will work with your mfsw and the xm direct tuner as well as allow you to use the factory changer. The reason I know this for a fact is I ordered one and received it last Friday, installed it and happily listen to XM and my changer!
