We need a little clarification. The first post states that all Blitzsafe products are 20% off with this group buy. However, in a later post marc@blitzsafe says that the BMW/XMD 101 is not included in the group buy. This is the adapter that most of us need.

Alright my boss has made me aware of a part number change.

Mini/ XM SKY 00/01 is now Mini/ SLD 00/01

SLD or Sky Link Direct is engineered to work with the Sky Link Cradle that will be released shortly. The MINI/XMD 100/101 was engineered to work solely with the XM tuner(black box), while the MINI/SLD 00/01 has expanded capabilities far beyond that of the XMD 100/101. If someone wanted to use the MINI/ SLD 00/01 with the XM tuner(black box) it will work, but it was designed for the SkyLink Direct cradle, and you will not be using it to its full potential.

When using either the BMW/XMD 101 or the MINI/SLD 01, you can use either the factory cd changer, or with our BMW-MINI/ALP DMX V.1, you can use an Alpine CD changer.

after searching around for a while, here are some pics and a small write up of the sky link, it actually does sound really cool! You get to keep the option of taking it into the house and also keep it hidden in the car and use the stock stereo to control it! (at least that is my understanding)

Hopefully this is hitting before the beginning of next year, I would really rather not wait that long

I'm guessing here of course, but........

Sounds to me like BlitzSafe:

a) Will not sell you a XMD/BMW 100 or 101

b) Have a 'new' interface that they will sell you for the Terk XM Direct box, the SLD 00/01 Interface

c) Are avoiding the issues they had selling the XMD interface direct, by renaming/re-engineering it as something else

They are waffling around the interfacing of the new interface to the XM Direct, and usuing a little smoke and mirrors mentioning the future Sky Link product.

As most people here are interested in interfacing the Terk XM Direct module, to a 2003- MINI HU, which interface can they buy from BlitzSafe, using the 20% discount you've outlined, to make this happen?

Chris.

I haven't been given an exact release date yet on the SkyLink Cradle. I expect the unit to be out shortly, around the end of the year.

Marc,
Like others here I am intrigued by the potential of the SkyLink Direct. However given the delay of its introduction - apparently nearly a full year - I am very hesitant to order without more details on when it will be available, price, and features.

So, the way i understand it, one simply uses the sky link direct instead of the $50 xmdirect, and you *also* need the newer adapter. Additionally, if you want to make that installation as much of a breeze as the current solution, wouldn't you also have to install the sky link in that cubby hole in the boot? I can't imagine myself reaching into the boot and plucking out the sky link and bringing it indoors.

To me, this all seems a bit of a transitional solution to having "portable" XM. What is the real advantage of this when you can simply get a relatively cheap unit for your home? I guess you can save on the monthly payment by having only one active unit. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm so confused that I have no clue what I would need to get for my 2004 HK system, and keep my multifunctional steering wheel controls.

To try and assist here, and avoid the confusing statements from all parties that seem to make this sound so much more dificult than it needs to be, I called BlitzSafe sales today to ask what was needed:

1) They will NOT sell you the XMD/BMW Interface that I used to interface the MINI HU or HK/MINI HU to the Terk XM Direct unit in a previous post.

2) They WILL sell you a 'new' interface, that will do exactly the same job as the 'old' XMD/BMW inteface. This is the MINI/SLD 01

3) You plug the MINI/SLD 01 interface into the MINI wiring loom in the boot, and the Terk XM Direct module into the MINI/SLD 01. You plug the antenna into the XM Direct module, and you're good to go.

4) No other BlitzSafe interfaces are required.

So it's works exactly the same as before, but the name has been changed to protect what ever exclusive deals BlitzSafe/XM/BMW have in place with the 'old' XMD/BMW interface.

The MINI/SLD 01 is in stock, I was told, they can take your credit card over the phone, and the price quoted in this forum includes ground shiping within the US.

Hope that clears things up for everyone looking to move to XM.

Chris.

PS If this 'straighforward' explanation upsets anyone, I'm sorry. But BlitzSafe pu$$yfooting around the XM Direct issue, for what ever reason, just seemed to be confusing far to many people.

Thank you for clearing that up. The Terk XM Direct module though... that the thing from Crutchfield (and other places)? You linked this thing in your other thread. The XMDirect XMD1000.

I noticed you have an 02 and an 03. Are we sure this works with 04?

I'm curious about a claim made at least twice in this thread.

"The MINI/XMD 100/101 was engineered to work solely with the XM tuner(black box), while the MINI/SLD 00/01 has expanded capabilities far beyond that of the XMD 100/101"

What's better about it?

I can't even find the MINI/SLD 101 on the website. I found this "list" though. Very confusing. They say it works with the factory HU, but neglect to say which of the 6 (or 12 if you add the CD changer ones) is for the factory.

The XMD1000 or XM Direct is made by Terk, and is available from Crutchfield and other dealers for around $50.

Works in an 04 - we did an 04 install the other week.

Chris.

You can pretty much forget the BlizSafe website, they have only ever shown the interfaces for 3rd party ICE products, like Alpine etc etc.

Never ever seen them list the BMW or MINI interfaces for working with the XM Direct box we're all after.

I think they were trying to do an exclusive deal with BMW or XM, so shipped them under the radar, and never listed them.

Call their sales people if you want answers, don't use the website!

Chris.
We never listed the BMW/XMD 100/101 because we never sold them directly. They were always distributed by United Radio(Satellite Radios Direct) Our SkyLink Direct Cradle is solely our product, and we will be selling them direct, and anything else that interfaces with the cradle. While the connections are the same on the XMD and the SLD, there are differences between the 2. We are not involved with any under the table deals. We are not selling or shipping the XMD 100/101. Our website is in need of updating, and will be soon. Sorry for any confusion when using our website.

As stated earlier in this thread, the XMD was developed to work solely with the XM Tuner(black box), while the SLD is engineered to work with the soon to be released cradle. Both offer the same type of connections, both look identical, and both let you control XM thru the factory headunits in BMW and MINI vehicles.
