DIY universal mount for smartphone/GPS - MINI MOUNT 1.0
Hi,
Since the day I bought my R53, I've been thinking about neat and simple mount for my phone. I dont like any of those suction mounts, I didnt wanted to drill the dashboard etc. I love idea of magnetic mounts, but there in no room on dash to stick it... So I started to think of doing a mount on my own.
A friend of mine has a 3d printer, so it was priceless help in my project
After series of measurments, spending hours in Solidworks, and printing about nine protopypes I proudly present you my very own MINI MOUNT 1.0
It consit of press-fit 3d printed base combined with magnetic mount from aliexpress.
So far it works great, and, what is more important, its unique and mine!
looks neat, how solid is it over bumps, phone stay in place?
are you thinking about selling these?
Hi there,
I've beeen testing my mount for few months now.
Well, the mount stays in place, never jumped out of its place.
The same for the phone - never fell off on the floor - that never happened.
The only issue I've noticed, is some micro play, nothing important really, but once I've noticed it I could get my mind of it
I've made prototype to eliminate this (you can see it below). I guess the additional "foot" should help. I will get it printed this week, so I will post here my impressions.
AND you have to be aware of pros and cons of magnetic mount - I wasn't
Pros - neat, clean, easy mounting/dismounting the phone.
Cons - actually there is one. I would not consider it as a flaw, rather detail you have to remember while mounting your phone especially when you are in a hurry.
You should face area, where the metal plate is sticked to the back of your phone, EXACTLY to magnet face.
In this situation the magnet will hold your phone firmly, so the phone stays horizontal or vertical, exactly as you wish.
If the metal plate doesnt match exactly the face of magnet, phone can rotate or slide a little bit on some really big bumps.
So that's it.
When it come to business - never thought of selling it, but yea, why not?
Just write PM, we will work out the details.
