2003 R53 Nav Update, Question

Hello All!

I have a 2003 Cooper S with nav. It's the version 4 system. Do you have a good source for current software for this system besides eBay? I've found update disks, but maybe someone here would be willing to sell me one instead of me just grabbing one off eBay. I'm on the west coast of the US, btw.

Also, is it at all possible to swap the nav in my 2003 for the chrono pack? Or even the standard speedo? I've searched around the forums and it looks like the answer is, "no, unless you have Jay Leno cash and you own a MINI workshop."

Thanks!

-Dustin

Oh, and I know a lot of MINI owners don't like the Chrono Pack, but it looks great with the background blacked out: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...kes-again.html

It is possible to swap! I'm in the middle of going from the stock setup to the Navi setup... just having some trouble clearing the VIN off the used Navi center I bought. I bought the dual speed/tacho new from Mini and that went in without issue. The lights are wrong, but that's just a few changed in NCS Expert when the Navi cluster goes in.

New dual speed/tacho = $850
Used navi center = $240
EEPROM read/writer = $200

By current software, do you mean the device firmware or the maps?

The VIN is permanently written the first time the unit is programmed. It cannot be "cleared". The reason is that the center Nav one of the places where the odometer is stored, and the VIN is tied to the odometer.

Oh, that's weird that I can change it... the VIN isn't permanent.

You need to zero the mileage using PA Soft then write in the VIN and vehicle order code. Then mileage will be copied over from the DME and you won't get a mileage tamper dot.

I stand corrected. I Googled and see that there are ways to reset mileage and VIN without having it flagged as tampered.

Only with PA Soft and a direct memory write. INPA/NCS can't write the mileage.

The memory reader I bought (R260S) has a mileage editor built into the software they provided. It's crazy easy too.

how do I do this? I'm going to try a used speedometer for my car but don't watch a mileage issue.
