Blown HiFi speaker replacement?

One (or more) of my Hifi speakers in my 09 JCW has blown, I think - I get lots of crackling in bassy songs. Is there an aftermarket speaker I should consider using as a replacement? Or should I stick with OEM speakers?

I don't plan to change the amp or add a subwoofer or anything.

Also, is there a good source for these speakers? According to this page, I'll need part numbers 65133422637 and 65139143153, which don't have many web hits (though there are a few, just none of my usual MINI sources).

Thanks!

Hello,

In 9/2009 MINI went from HiFi ( -9/2009) to Harman Kardon HiFi (9/2009+) .

If the speaker pop and crack individually its the speaker, if its all of them , it may be the amp. To know if you have the HK ( harman kardon ) look for the a pilliar speaker on the dash that states Harman Kardon on 9/2009+ . Pre 9/2009 with Hifi have a tweeter speaker on the dash a pillair but it black and does not say anything on the grille.

It's definitely just individual speaker(s). I've got the HiFi system (my car was built in mid 08, and is an 09MY).

Ok, thats good, just wanted you to know.

I isolte each speaker and change the volume to determine which one is blown. Its easy to replace them , some guys change them out to the HK ones.

Since they are same size. And keep the HiFi amp.

Some people do the front / rear channel swap on the Hifi system.

I swapped out my HiFis for the HKs for better sound quality. I can check if I still have them if you're interested.

Quite possibly. How did you find the upgrade in terms of SQ, and how much did it run you?

It was in the 300-400 range I believe. I swapped out all speakers except for the A-pillar tweeters. However, the larger speakers in door panel were the best bang for the buck.
