Navigation DVD / player issue

Hello There, I am new to this forum and I apologize in-advance for any incorrect posting or any abbreviations. I just bought a 2008 Mini Cooper S with Navigation System option (sticker price $2000.00). The DVD is a 2008 version (old). Every time I turn the Navigation system on I get the message to insert the DVD, however, the DVD is already inserted, I cleaned the DVD several times, I even copied it and inserted the new copy, but keep getting the same message. I cleaned the DVD player using the CD/DVD lens cleaner. The player does play music when I install the music CD in it. My system is the stackable CD player and a DVD player for the DVD maps where DVD a face goes over facing the player. Wondering if anyone had this issue and how to start fixing it...would an updated DVD solve the problem, could it be a DVD player issue? I appreciate any input on this issue and welcome any feedback...Thank you so much….Mark

Are you insetting the navigation DVD in the top drive slot, or the one behind the lower control panel? If you press the small button on the right side of the lower control unit, the entire module will pop off and there is another dvd slot where you put the Nav DVD.

I have a 2010 DVD and it still loads up fine. My only problem is that I only have a European DVD since my Mini was built in Germany and driven there until last year. The service department is still trying to figure out how to make my Nav work here in the states.
Not sure about your question of the music CD playing in the bottom and then not reading the DVD.

you might install the disc and let it wait for a great while.

What was the outcome of this DVD issue? I have the same issue in my 09 MCS. Display says to insert DVD but it is in and always has been in and has never been taken out until today. I've inserted and ejected multiple times but unit will not read it. I can hear it spinning so the drive seems like its running. Anyone have the solution to this? What does a replacement unit go for?

I ended up replacing the top part of the player, the one you insert the maps DVD in, took it a part sperated it, actually my brother did most of the work. I bought it from the local Mini Dealer, I believe it was under $200, not sure of exact amount as it has Been several months, you have to take the broken part to dealer to get the $125.00 core charge, I think it was $125.00, I can look up the receipts. It has been working perfect since (knock on wood), using the old scratched up DVD.

I am sorry I don't have the part No, I could not find it, the dealer should find it when you explain what you looking for. It's the DVD player part replacement for the gps DVD player. I think it took about 1 1/2 hour. My brother owns a small used car lot and a small shop where he does all repairs for me. If you're a little handy you should be able to do it. I am not handy so he does it for me and I pay him. Hope this answers your question...good luck.

Having a similar issue with my '08 Cooper w/factory nav. In my situation the DVD player doesn't recognize the nav disc when it gets really hot (like sitting in the sun during the day). Once the car cools down (evening) it starts to work again. In other forums I've read that it's a sign that the DVD player component is failing and you need to replace it.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether the DVD unit itself should be replaced. My local dealer's online ordering system shows the following:

Part Number: 65839241764

dvd unit 2007-10
PARTS: Part included with ctrlr MSRP Core ? Save Online Price
$125.21 $200.00 $25.04 $100.17
