Mini Connected and iPhone 6

Just purchased iPhone 6 and new Y cable but having connectivity problems with Mini Connected in R58. Music plays fine but Mini Connected app does not respond. Any other users with this issue?

I appear to have the same issue. While launching Mini Connected app in iOS8 on iPhone 6, the app doesn't make it past the launch screen with the MINI logo.

I upgraded from an iPhone 4S, so I missed the forum discussions about connectivity issues with the lightning port. I'm reviewing these message boards to see if perhaps the problem is using the Apple 30pin to Lightning adapter that I assumed would work.

So I'm working through if this is a hardware connectivity issue with the use of the adapter, if this is a problem with the Mini Connected app and its compatibility with iOS8, or if this is an issue with new hardware on iPhone 6.

I followed through with the diagnostics within the app with the apple white lightning cable which yielded the same results with connectivity. The cable I used was the new y cable without the adapter. It has lightning one end and audio and USB in the other. It may appear we need to wait for an update on the app for it to work again. Maybe someone will find a work around.

I'm happy to report that the issue seemed to just resolve itself. The Mini Connected app (v2.7.1) works on the iPhone 6 running iOS8 and Mini Connected on the car interfaces with the iPhone app to receive web radio information(the Mini app feature I use most) using the factory 30 pin Y cable with the Apple 30pin to lightning adapter.

I think my issue was cellular connectivity or connection to server gremlins. Once the app prompted for my username/password, everything worked as it always had before with the iPhone 4s.

Software versions:
Multimedia: MX-003.005.004
Telephone: TX-003.005.006

Music Adapter
6112 2287641-01

The lightning cable from apple works with Mini Connected but the Y cable does not work with Mini Connected but can play music.

There seems to be different Y cables available through BMW/Mini. Not sure if they are specific to function.
61122287505 is listed as a media cable.
61122287642 is listed as a music cable.

Can't seem to find my cable part number. May need to call Mini Service this week to find out about the different part numbers.

Has anyone ever tried one of these 3rd party adapters for BMW/Mini?

Asked my mini parts manager and found out:
61122287505 is listed as a media cable for use with models with navigation
61122287642 is listed as a music cable for use with models without navigation
After connecting the media cable, music plays, apps work but the plugin option does not recognize the iPhone 6. It does not detect it as a compatible device.

The "plugin" option only works up to the iPhone 4S, because that's the last one with 30 pin.
The new ones, from the 5 onwards, have the lightning cable.
For the "plugin" to work, it needs a video signal from the phone.
The lightning cable does not support video out, but the 30 pin does.

Can i translate that to mean if the screen is "off" ie locked - the audio doesn't work?

-- if yes, explains the issues i've had - looking forward to testing that in the morning.

Do any of you notice the sound being really bad when connecting the iphone 6 via the Y cable? I just bought an R58 with mini connected. Bought the Y cable, if I connect via the Y cable the volume level coming out of the iphone sounds way too loud and it distorts bass / treble.

If I use bluetooth audio, the levels sound better, and don't distort. I've also tried turning bass / treble all the way down with the cable connected with no luck.

I went into the EQ, change it to flat, but that didn't really help either. So I left it alone.

I see it is probably one of a few different things

1) The cable is bad
2) Iphone 6 / ios8 changed the line level to be too loud, and mini connected overboosts the signal coming out of the iphone
3) The aux port is bad (or the mini connected itself dont' know)

Just wanted to see if anyone else had the issue.

Also getting some distortion on my R56.
The cable is brand new.
Will try to fiddle on the iPhone's EQ to see if it gets any better.

Hmm I doubt it's the cable. I think the connected needs an update for iPhone 6. I am pretty sure apple must have changed something either hardware or software wise.

This week or next I am going to the dealer to have it checked.

While fiddling on the EQ setting on the iPhone, I found out that if you put in the HIGH VOLUME option it gets better. I thing the overall sound is a little lower than it used to, but if fixed the distortions I was getting.
Hope this helped!!

Hmm I have to try that. Typically "high volume" is achieved by some sort of compression so that could in fact work.

One other thing: if people are having trouble with the iPhone 6 and the cable please take your car to the dealer and complain. MINI won't fix the problem unless they know about it.
