Android Tablet
Hi All,
I am thinking of mounting an old(ish) android tablet in my Mini Cooper S Hardtop. I have been looking into this a bit but have a few questions:
1. Does anyone have experience with the Proclip mount, link, good or bad?
2. Does anyone know of an OBD to USB(microUSB) cable that will work with an android app? I believe my device to have a USB host controller.
3. Is there a preferred android app for OBD real time gauges and whatnot?
4. How do I get 12v 1.5a to my device without using the cig lighter adapter?
5. I believe my device to have an independent GPS antenna and I will have a hotspot capable smartphone with me at all times to download map and traffic data...any pitfalls here to be aware of?
6. Are there any mods to android or other apps that I should be aware of? I am not afraid to root the phone, as I will have to do that to upgrade the OS anyway.
Thanks to all.

Just use Blue Tooth, lots of OBD scanners out there use it. I paid $20 for mine off Amazon and you don't need to mess with cables.

I use Torque. There is a free version, it was good enough that I bought the paid version (am thinking it was $5). Way more gauges than I'll ever use.

That should be no problem at all. If a location-based app can get location (through the device's GPS) and has an internet connection (wi-fi tethered to your phone), it will run normally.
I am an IPad person, but there is an app called Drive Assist which has a GPS and several dashboard goodies in it that I use in my dash mounted ipad Mini. They may make and Android Version
I did a simple Velcro mount which holds well and is easily removable if needed. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/driv...660222655?mt=8
