Did a search, now questions on speakers into a H/K equipped car

so, I have a H/K system in my Mini. I have been completely happy with it, but the speakers up front are definitely blown.

I found out the impedence is 2 ohm rather than 4 but there are replacement speakers made by both MB Quart and Infinity that run a 2 ohm impedence.

I have no issues with the other functionality bits other than the blown speaker. Has anyone attempted to use these types of 2 ohm speakers with the factory setup and what was your experience with it?

It may not be the speakers, but the amp. The amp is a well known failure item. Haven't seen many use alternative speakers with the HK, but you might try a WTB in the Marketplace to see if anyone has an old HK speaker set.

Just an FYI, i was planning on replacing the rear speakers on my wife's cabrio with HK.. the speakers have two set of wires running to them- like you would have a separation of the mids and highs. If replacing the speakers you will lose some of the range depending which ones you tap into

This. 30 seconds with a multimeter will tell you if it's an open circuit speaker. I'd bet my lunch it's the amp that died.

Also you can fit 2R, 4R or 8R speakers into a 2R stable amplifier but not the other way around. It's important to note the inbuilt crossovers in the amp are multi order and tuned to the body style of your mini plus the factory speaker non-linearities.

Finally, the speaker impedance/power issue is stomped over by the sensitivity. Using a 4R driver with 3dB more sensitivity, the output SPL is the same. And we don't know the sensitivity of the factory driver.

Oh and the mounts are a non-standard shape.

In summary check the amp first then fit any medium quality speaker that will fit.

The HK rear speakers are coaxial (2 independent speakers in one package). What is your motivation for replacing them? There are very few aftermarket speakers that are compatible with the HK system.

I've got a set of HK front door drivers (4) and A-pillar tweeters (2) out of a '13 JCW hatch. PM me your contact information if you're interested.

Hello, I am dealing I am dealing with a blown speakers on drivers side and have been hunting down for answers. I am trying to figure out if I can run 2 ohm speakers without changing factory amp. By the sound of your reply it seems like it may be possible? I have come across very different opinions while some people say its doable and others say its not. Curious what would make it not doable? Thanks in advanced.
