Gen 1 Nav firmware V32 update query

Hi, I am in the middle of preparing my mini for the latest V32 Navigation update. I found the original software on here http://neiloakley.com/, but I have been told to burn this using Mode 2 in Nero on other forum as other mode will cause it to crash?. But for some reason when ever I load up the iso. file, it always change the default to mode 1, whatever I do, I cant seen to find a way to burn this in Mode 2.

Can i burn this using mode 1 without causing it the crash? do I burn this in CD or DVD? can someone kindly share some more info on how to do this? thanks...

I did this years ago. I don't remember what I did with respect to Mode1/Mode2, but it definitely has to be burned as a CD (not DVD).

If you feel uneasy about it, just get the official CD from a dealer or vendor (part # 01 59 0 141 891). It's really cheap.

Mode2/Form1 is only required for MK3 CD based nav drives, restricting you to V27. DVD nav is MK4 and will take V32.

Remember if you burn BMW FW to a MINI drive you'll get the BMW splash screen and color scheme.

Burn your CD in Mode1/Form1 as the ISO allows for MK4 DVD nav.

So mode1 or mode 2 wont make much difference then i guess.

I cant really find the mini v32 firmwares, and only manage the bmw version. This isnt going to cause much of an issue is it?

That's not what I wrote.

This isn't totally accurate. Mode 2 was required for the MK3 and MK4 systems. You also needed to burn the ISO at the lowest speed possible. Also, there is no firmware difference between BMW and MINI. The splash screen might flash BMW once, but will switch back to MINI once it detects the car. They are the same exact firmware.

Let's talk exclusively about MK4.

Can you link a source for this? Because the v32 image is created with mode1/form1, shows up in imgburn as mode1/form1, and everyone burns and updates mode1/form1 successfully.

My source is me... I was one of the few that was really digging into the MK4 early on, I even got TMC working on the MK4 in my American model MINI in Germany. My MK4 will not read a mode 1 disc and has trouble with certain dyes as well. However, burn mode 2 at the slowest rate and all is well. There were a few of us working with this back in 2005.

The image isn't available in mode2, it's always been mode1. Everyone uses mode1. Perhaps you have issues with your CD laser.

You can burn the ISO in either mode, that is up to you and your computer, not the image. Nothing is wrong with my laser and I have done this on probably 30+ vehicles (MINIS and BMW X3 and X5) including modifying some to change features.

There are lots of threads on XOutPost about it as well. Feel free to research it a bit more. Many folks there said the same. Burn the image in Mode 2/ Form 1, skip Nero as it sucks and use a program like Imgburn.

Not going to argue it any further with you mate, just been doing it a long time and know what I am talking about. Ciao...

Couple of ways.

1. Go to settings on the nav screen and look up in the left upper corner. You will see something like 'SW 4-x/xx or SW3-x/xx'. The first number will denote the system.

2. Look under your seat and open the are where the CD/DVD is to see if there is a DVD logo on it. If there is, it is an MK4.

Basically just insert the disc and wait for it to load by itself.
  1. Turn on the ignition to position 1 (engine not on).
  2. Let the Nav start up (dismiss the warning screen if necessary).
  3. Eject the Nav map disc
  4. Insert the firmware disc
  5. If any prompts come up, press the button to confirm
  6. Wait for the installation to finish (it will display the progress)
  7. When done, eject the firmware disc
  8. Reinsert the Nav map disc
If nothing seems to happen after inserting your firmware disc, or it takes a long time (more than 10 minutes), it's probably having trouble reading your CD-R disc. You may need to burn a new copy and try again.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but I need help from someone here. The link in one of the earlier posts shows the firmware is discontinued from MINI.

I just need a V32 firmware that has a (MINI) startup screen splash. Does anyone have a link or a copy of the firmware I can borrow?

I looked on an old laptop and found the iso file. If you set up a shared folder (DropBox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc), I can upload it. It is about 250 MB in size.

Neil Oakley still has the v.32 software in ISO form posted at:
http://http://neiloakley.com/

I would choose the "Original" version, rather than the modified version he also offers (that includes tweaks and the BMW M-power logo).

He also has v.25, v.29, and v.30 if you need an older version for some reason.

Is this the latest version of the firmware? I think BMW has v32.2.
