Yep, you are quite right apps are (quite reasonably) tied to Apple IDs, have read many posts along these lines on forums for other apps. What a pain in the neck.

Oh well. That's an App I can delete then and a option I'll think twice about next time (given it cost me £1,435 or $2,381 for the "Media Pack"). Fool me twice...

 

Updates my peeps: Spoke w/Mini again and they are working on getting the Send to Car features back in the mini connected app. I guess they didn't expect such a backlash from the users by removing it.

I've suggested to Mini to republish the older version of the app in the interim since users w/the older app with send to car seem to work fine. So hopefully we'll see an update soon! Also, google added the "Send to Car" feature back into the new Google Maps too...

A few words about issues installing older versions of the MiNi Connected app...

Because Apple encodes every .ipa file with user information - even the free ones like Connected - sharing of .ipa files between different Apple account holders will simply not work. This has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but it bears repeating.

But I'd like to add this: my previous file was 2.3.0 and I fortunately had kept it, so I figured I was OK rolling back. No dice. After going through all the steps to clean out 2.7.0 from both my device and iTunes, then getting 2.3 installed, the Connected software itself - on my iPod - would not let me log in (something like "Unable to connect with server - try again later"). It appears that once 2.3 is uninstalled, it cannot be re-installed. 2.6 may have better luck. So I added my voice to those who are asking for Send to Car to be re-incorporated.

One change I'd LOVE to see, however - and a serious short-coming with Send to Car - is having the routing - rather than just the destination - transfer over. The first time I used StC, I worked with Google Maps on a very specific routing - basically sending me through and around the NYC area on parkways rather than stone-kicking interstate truck routes. When the route was sent to my car, the car's routing algorithm completely dismissed my Google route. In other words, StC ONLY saves you the trouble of inputting the destination through the car's MiNi screen, and offers no further advantages than that. Not much of an advantage in my opinion.

 

This may appear a few times....the Send to Car for Mini is back in the NEW Google Maps...you no longer have to go to Classic but someone else should check this too. I had messed around with my Google setup so I'm not sure it's really back in Maps. So, what's the holdup on fixing the App? Steve.

 

Called Mini again today. They are still working on adding back Send to Car. I also again voiced my opinion on Mini at least publishing the Mini Connected app v2.6.0 back to the App Store as a different app as a stop gap until (ie Mini Connected - Retro).

 

+1 . When planning a club drive it would be awesome to have the complete, exact, detailed route created in Google Maps followed by the GPS guidance. It would certainly make life a whole lot easier.

 

Now it seems that you can't send to car anymore from google maps. Been trying for a couple days and only get a message that it can't send to car at this time. Wonder if it's now completely disbled for mini. Anyone else find this to be true.

 

Send to Car was removed from Mini Connected as of the last update,sometime in March,2014

 

Still works for me.....just used it over the weekend. I never updated the Connected app.

 

Cool thanks, all I get after hitting the send button is " Sorry, we were unable to send this message at this time. Please visit the help page." I haven't updated the app either.


Grrrrr, but atleast now I know it still should work.

 

I figured it out, I had to correct the mini connected account name.

Are you using classic Google maps or the new version? The classic maps doesn't work for me anymore either. If you log into Google (have to have some sort of google account) and then go to their maps page, the Send To link should be there. That's how I got it to work.

Just a tip: before updating to the new version, save the old one somewhere else on your computer. That way, if the new is worse in your opinion, you can go back to the older one.

 

I updated but haven't had a chance to check it out. Hope to this coming weekend.

I've updated and again NO "Send to Car"

Updates from MINI directly or my conversations w/them last week. Basically MINI is quietly sweeping the "Send to Car" feature under the proverbial rug and hoping all of us forget about this feature.

I spoke w/them for about 2 hours on Friday and in the end basically got an 'unofficial' that feature is never coming back. I also pointed out how BMW Drive does have this feature still and the CONNECTED software is just the MINI branded version of it. But.. don't stop believing!! keep calling them!! i do.

 

Can someone post the phone # to call? maybe we can start a campaign of frequent callers to hound them. I haven't used my navigation since send to car went away. :(

According to a Mini rep that I talked to on the phone today, they are working on making the Google Send to Phone feature available again "in the future." He made it clear that no timeline would be given but they were working on incorporating back in. I have no other way to verify this but if people stay vocal and call in to demand the feature is back it may be brought back. 866-ASK-MINI (866-275-6464) Mon - Fri 9:00am - 9:00pm ET.

 

Yet another email sent from me to get this feature returned. I should do this every time I would like to use the feature -- they'd end up getting a LOT of emails from me.
