GPS Voice

Hello all new to the forum and month old first time mini owner! I have a 2002 mini s jcw. It has the built in gps and the previous owner had installed a single din pioneer radio which works great. My question is about the gps, when I'm doing a route shouldn't I be hearing the directions through the speakers??? Is there maybe an adapter or a wire that didn't get installed? Thanks in advance for any help! ~Q

The question is - is the aftermarket unit capable of accepting the input from the Nav system?

It's been about 10 years since I was last behind the head unit of an R50/53, but as I recall there was a plug (possibly proprietary) that connected directly into the back of the HU. I believe there were two slots on the back of the old HU - one that accepted the input from the Nav and the other from the CD changer if installed.

The only place that I know of that might have an adapter is New MINI Stuff over in the UK... But that's also assuming that your aftermarket unit can accept the any input from the Nav..

You would need a speaker level audio input for the nav audio on the pioneer, which it won't have. You are in quite a technically challenging situation. BestBuy/Crutchfield cannot help you at this point, please don't be tempted to let them butcher your wiring.

Options

1) trying to find a powered speaker to go in the footwell to give you the navigations instructions and to figure out a way to mute the pioneer
2) replace the Pioneer with the factory unit
3) Use the HK amp NAV_NF and NAVBUS inputs if you have them
4) See if there is an adaptor at newmininstuff that can mix in the nav audio onto the pioneer audio outputs

You don't need to check, it is simply not supported by Non-BMW equipment. Please use my list.
