Just purchased my first mini, Some problems...

So, upon test driving my new (to me) 2005 Mini Cooper, The radio decided to stop working. I purchased a warranty, but it is not within the guidelines. (of course) The radio comes on briefly, then makes a pop and no more sound. Everything else is functional. I've narrowed it down using the forums, to be the amp. It has the HK stereo. I looked the amp up on online and quickly got myself distraught. 450 dollars for the cheapest I could find. So now here is my question. After dropping every penny I had, excluding a few for some necessities, what can I do about this. I just bought it today, and the kicker, is I made sure to check everything before purchase, and it all worked fine. Is there a cheaper solution?
