I'm looking to buy one of these. Any recommendations? Pros? Cons? BTW I use a Mac at home and would like to be able to connect it to upload new maps if possible. All info appreciated.

The Magellan 700 has won the most accolades for a GPS unit in this catagory. Also, the 700 already is loaded with all of the maps on its included hard drive, so no flash/memory cards to fool around with.

Check out C-NET.COM for further reviews of these units!

Cheers,

The 2620 also has a hard drive and does not require loading of maps. No word about connectivity requirements for updates on Garmin's website. (I use a Mac as well)

Magellan's screen is a bit bigger, if I remember correctly, and the speaker for voice navigation is on the unit itself. The 3D navigation looks neat, though I'm not sure how useful this is.

The Garmin's speaker is in the power supply.
I like the cleaner look and the touchscreen of the Garmin.
The software interface seemed a bit more intuitive, though to be fair the display for the Magellan @ Costco wasn't working properly.
IMO I think the Garmin is a better match to the MINI.
So when I'm ready to purchase, I think the it's the one I'll get.

Like everything else it all comes down to personal preference. I also use a MAC with VirtualPC installed, along with a couple of PC's. Personally, I prefer the Garmin 2620. But for the money I'd go with either the Garmin or the Magellan since there doesn't seem to be much of a difference other than design. For the $ I'm sure you can't go wrong either way.

I have a Garmin 2620.
It's in a word...incredible.
It's.....intuitive, mobile, has a self contained harddrive, clear/programmable display, and the touchscreen is a plus.
I paid about $975 delievered..... if I recall.

When I 1st got it...I intentionally drove in the "wrong" direction...just to hear "recalculating"
It then presents a new updated route..... and it was amazing how much new info I received about my neighborhood that I never new existed.

peace,
D

I personally have owned 3 different Garmin GPS systems, from the very first color Streetpilot to the current model. The current model is absolutely awesome. The only complaint I have on the older model is the calculation speed, which is extremely slow compared to the DVD systems. However, the latest model is almost as quick as the DVD ones. The unit is loaded with many useful features and the quality is impeccable!

I really appreciate all the comments posted here. I'll probably get a Garmin.
