Mini Connected Android

Mini has stated that Conncected will work with the Android platform for the new F56. Does anyone out there know when the software will be updated? Also, any news concerning any other software updates coming down the pike?

Thank You

What do you mean by "when the software will be updated"? I think Android will be supported from the start of the F56. Android is already supported in the 2013 BMW Connected, and hardware/software components are shared between BMW models and the F56.

However, don't expect any updates for the current R5x MINI Connected systems. They will never support Android.

I was curious about backwards compatibility and if a software update would provide it. I was also curious about a software update in general for connected as the last one was almost a year ago.

Adding Android support to the older Connected systems would be BMW's decision, but I'm afraid that they have little motivation to do it at this late stage. The older Connected systems that didn't support Android have already been replaced on 2013 BMW models and phase out has begun on MINI. The old system is now effectively obsolete.

MotoringFile published an article two years ago and I don't expect any changes to the situation: http://www.motoringfile.com/2011/12/...soon-to-minis/

While I doubt we'll see an update to Android for current MINI Connected systems, I do think an update is in the works for iOS. BMW Connected was just updated on the 19th. Since the MINI and BMW systems are near-identical, I expect that MINI should be right behind it.
