STUMPED! static and pops with stereo off

Hello, 1st time poster, daughters Mini 2004 COOPER.
Installed Input jack bought from Mini dealer, getting hiss, static and "pops" from speakers even with stereo off... I have taken head unit out and tried shifting wires around and can't seem to find where the problem is coming from.
It would not make any noise at all for long periods of time and without even moving the car or jostling around anything at all makes these noises, hear a "pop" then silence then maybe after a while, noise. sometimes after quite a while. This is frustrating to no end. Anyone have any ideas! Sure could use some help!
Thanks, Gary

sounds like a cold solder joint in either the radio or the amp both of which would be expensive to repair. get a replacement from the junkyard or an aftermarket cheap radio to make the car more sellable.

Did you cut any wires in the process? Is the aux input getting any feedback from a power cable nearby or something like that? Also does it do it if the radio is off but using a different "input" like CD?
