Navi help please!

Ok iv had my mini for a few months and really like it!! The navigation on the other hand has really never worked!! It freezes up all the time, I most use it for the onboard computer but that freezes up as well. Ill hit menu but it will not change screens, iv tried pulling the furs and taking the disk out but no change at all. I'm just trying to find out if its the head unit or the DVD player? I'm thinking head unit due to the fact that it freezes up with the onboard computer witch I'm sure is not reading from the DVD rom. Any help would be awesome!! Thanks guys!!

By head unit, I assume you mean the screen with its **** and menu button. That component has very little intelligence. The screen merely displays the video signal from the Nav computer, which is inside the same box as the DVD drive.

Does the screen content actually freeze while you are driving (the map location doesn't move, or values on the onboard computer don't update), or could it be simply unresponsive from a malfunctioning **** or button?

Check the condition of your car battery. The Nav computer can have odd behavior if there is low voltage.

Yes I meant the screen, I was wondering if it could be that because it freezes when displaying the computer info, like mpg and distance till empty. I did not know the computer part was in the DVD player. Now by button causing it you mean sticking or just has gone bad? When I try to use the navi it says disk error most of the time and freezes. I have a scan gauge in my car and I have the voltage display on that, it reads 13.7 the majority of the time unless the A/C is one with the lights ect.. Not saying the battery isn't bad I have seen crazy stuff with this multi plex wiring. Thanks for your reply!

If it says disk error, that's pretty definitively the Nav computer. I don't think it houses the OBC, but probably passes it on from the BCM as it controls the Nav screen.

The nav computer generates the graphics. It gets the MPG etc from the KOMBI (instrument cluster). First fix your disc error, even if that means ejecting it.
