"hide away" sub

Ive been reading over the HK related postings and I've listened to the system. I thought it sounded fine....I like clear and accurate music and to my ears based on the limited listening I did to the system I ordered it on my Cooper. I was thinking about trying to add a "hide away" or under seat type of powered sub. I didnt seem to find much when I searched the forum. Anyone have any tips or suggestions on this type of set up? How difficult would the intergration be? What type of things should I consider? and would it even be worth it? I dont want a thumping bass...I just want depth and accuracy with a bit of punch. Classic rock and Blues are my main musical choices.

Integral Audio has a hidden sub system in rear "trunk" of the R56.

i dont think youll get much of anything under the seats, unless you jack them up all they way, then disable that feature, to prevent damage IF you can get such a speaker under the seats.

your best bet, is das boot! build a sub box that you can put stuff on top off... something enclosed.

Thanks for the info. I'm still waiting for my Mini and have not looked at all of the options. I dont want to take up a ton of space with a sub, so I was attracted by these self powered compact units. Has anyone used something like this to augment the HK system besides the Integral set up and if so how hard was it to tap into the HK system and did it improve the system overall? Thanks for all the scoop and this site is an amazing source of information

if you already have the HK sound system, i Doubt youll even NEED an extra sub. I have HK sound, and buddy, it sounds like i HAVE a 10" sub in the car!

if you want my opinion, spend some money on sound deadening material, like GTmat, or dyna mat (i used GTmat, good price and lightweight, i felt the dynamat was fairly heavy).

youll have to rip apart your doors, and if you have the time, do the rear quarter panels on the inside of your car. that makes the sound even better! at worst, do your door panels. basically, turns the doors into sub boxes!

Thanks for the info. I have used dynamat before and I have some on order for the Mini. I used it on a couple of Jeeps and it really was effective.

the powered woofer systems are terrible. it doesnt matter which brand you buy, you will not be happy. trust me, i have been an installer for 13 years now. we custom build boxes at our shop to fit the vehicle and the customers needs. if you are really interested in a good setup without losing space try the xd series amps from jl audio and the 8w3. it is an awesome combo that doesnt break the bak, yet gives you a whole lot of sound
