I hate DIY...stupid antenna base replacement

Seems they never go the way they are described for me...

So, I need to replace my 06 MCS antenna base (darn garage door) and based on the instructions I found in this thread, this one seemed easy enough that even this muttonhead could do it. <sigh>... No joy.

First, the antenna coax cable did not pull through the motion detector opening so it could be disconnected as described...it appears either fastened or caught on something.

While I was cogitating on that one I tried to disconnect the thinner lead that goes to the rear defrost (what the heck is this for anyway, power to the antenna?). I was afraid to pull the headliner down more than a inch and a half or so (to avoid creasing it in the middle) so I couldn't see where the other line was connected. I could feel it, but couldn't figure out how to get it out (I once pulled the leads right out of a connected pulling blindly...).

Finally gave up (100°+ in my garage) and tried to put the nut back on the antenna base threaded bolt. Took a dozen attempts (it desperately wanted to cross thread itself) before I could finally get it attached again.

Anyone have any hints on the wiring, I'm listening...

What is left of your antenna base, I have to do a similar thing as somebody "ripped" the antenna off the base. All I see is three prongs across the open hole, I assume that there should be a threaded part that is integrated in the antenna base. My car has Nav and is an '05. I feel your pain . . . particularly given the replacement price. Everything seems to work okay for me, maybe a little less radio range than it should have so I was trying to fix the base and install an antenna in the hole.

on my mini, right below the antenna, on the inside of the car, was a little box on the headliner. that simply pulls off. looking up through it, you can see the roof, and a large nut for the antenna base. after unscrewing, i de-soldered the antenna electronics to remove it completely (after taking the thing apart).

my car has sirius radio however, so dont know if its diff from others. also, ive never seen an antenna that looks similar to mine, as it was a round, tear drop shaped deal...

can you post pics of your setup?

I can't seem to determine how to post a picture of the antenna I took, the poting rules indicate I should be able to post an attachment.

this is kinda a pita on this site... use advanced controls, then 2nd box at the bottom says "manage attachments". click that and upload. alternatively, you can post to diff site, right click the image and "save image location" then post the link

Radio Antenna Repair

Here are a couple of pix from the antenna. You can see the damage as the antenna was ripped from the base. The innards show simply a couple of circuit boards and the three prongs across. I would like to simply hit a Radio Shack type of store and purchase a female radio antenna connector and attach the "missing" coax wire to it, but I have never disassembled one of these and don't know what the innards look like. Any thoughts would be certainly appreciated. I think I could simply epoxy the missing area on the base. The radio reception is fair (hopefully can be improved) and the Nav system works fine.

looks like your gonna hafta dismantle the thing from the inside out, take if off the car. chances are there are several screws on the bottom plate that will let you into the innards.
