Any tips for using Android phone with Mini Connected head unit

I have a Galaxy S3 phone that I like. Works fine as a phone in the car, but so far I've had no success using it for music, either through Bluetooth streaming or USB. Have any of you found a workaround?

Andriod

I also have a Android Gal. Precedent myself.
For my music I just have a 2 GIG USB drive plugged into my USB port.
unless you use a charger for the phone it will run down the battery on the phone. I have it connected though Blue Tooth, and that works fine for the phone calls
I don't know the size limit for the USB port and using thumb drive in there, but my 2 GIG works great.

I dont know of any reason that you should not be able to stream music from your phone to the MINI Connected system.

Do you have a friend with an iPhone that can check to see if that works?

Also on the phone does it show two separate bluetooth connections?

One for Hands Free and one for A2DP. It needs to show both. If only the Hand Free is showing then that is all that is going to work.

After answers to these questions I can get into more detail with you.

Thanks, gentlemen. My Android phone streams music, but there's no artist/song data etc. And no way to choose tracks other than from the phone. I switched to the GS3 from an iPhone, so I'm spoiled by all the Mini Connected features it provided.

Yes in is unfortunate that MINI Connected does not support the better operating system and phones. But at least you can stream music. Do you have amount for the phone. I have mine mounted just behind teh steering wheel so I can reach it without taking my hand off the steering wheel.

In Motoringfile there was some blurb saying that they plan to support Android. I'm not holding my breath. So in order to optimally use the features/apps in Miniconnected you need an iPhone I take it.

For next generation MINI (2014 model year), not the current generation.

I remembered late last night that another forum member came up with a work around to make MINI connected to and Android phone.

Here is the link https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-solution.html

I'd hardly call buying an iPad and tethering your Android phone to it a solution if I'm reading that correctly.

I'm sorta bummed that Android support won't be coming until the next gen and I doubt it will be able to be retrofitted to the R56 but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles!

Notice the title says "passable". Of course it is a work around and it is unfortunate that MINI is not keeping up. Unfortunately technology changes very very fast and in the car industry the new time frame is years not months.

And also it is NOT an iPad it needs to be an iTouch so that the MINI Connected application can be installed on the device.
