Iphone 4 music support in 2009 without nav or connect?

In our 2009 MCS the OEM Y cable will play an Ipod 4th generation. But when we plug in an iPhone 4 the USB interface on the radio just states "error". We don't have the nav, so this is just using the USB/Aux input in under the center of the dash in front of the cup holders.

This is a used car, is it possible the radio software needs an update to support the iPhone running IOS5?

Several recent posts about this... Seems a flash may be required. Might even be no charge if your car is still under warranty.

Fingers crossed, I'm still under warranty. I need to go in for an annual oil change anyway under the last of my maintenance so I'll time this with the oil change. I'll post a reply once I know for sure what the outcome is.
