'02 R53 ipod install?
I have an '02 R53 that (production date 8/02 - heard that may matter) that I want to be able to use my iphone through the factory deck. What are my options? And where can I find the gear to get it done?
thanks.
thanks.
if you have a regular Boost (non-Harman Kardon) head unit, you can upgrade to a 2005+ head unit and use the factory AUX wiring kit from Outmotoring, etc.
I did the same for my '02 MCS .. only difficult portion was drilling two tiny holes for the AUX input plate.
I assume that this is the setup you are looking for? Or are you looking for complete control of your iPod through the system?
*you can find the 2005 head units through eBay. Difference is the Aux input in the back and the power/volume **** is star shaped instead of round.*

Another option is to use a Blitzsafe unit.

I installed this (I got a real good deal from a NAM member) in my '02 MCS with a factory (non-Harmon Kardon) head unit.
I had replaced the factory speakers with really good speakers but didn't want to change head units because I wanted to keep the factory look and my steering wheel controls. By the time you buy a new head unit with the steering wheel control option the cost really adds up.
The Blitzsafe unit plugs into the 2 factory CD changer cables in the RT rear quarter access panel. Then run a cable (dual RCA to 1/8" headphone plug) to where ever you want your iPhone. With this plugged in the CD changer option will show up on the stock head unit and you can play your tunes.
This unit is for any generic MP3 player and does not charge the player.
I believe this model is designed to work with iPhones and will also charge but you may want to contact them to make sure.
