I'm interested in installing a 2din stereo/nav in my 04S. I've seen this solution, but it's pretty custom. Is there an equivalent of the R56 Metra solution out there?
I'm working on a 2 Din conversion kit and should have some prototypes soon. Message me. The plan will be that it will come with the 2din adapter, stereo harness, and new (non-painted) columns to complete a fairly moderate install without a lot of cutting or time.

So I to was interested to see how this would work. So I purchase an Alpine Double Din unit. I had a spare surround that I could play with from a dead GPS unit. What I wanted to try and do was to get the unit in there without having to rewire things.
What I found was I could remove enough material from the white and black plastic areas to get the HU in with the circuit boards removed.
The issue came when I went to drop the boards back in. The top one fit ok but the lower board got caught up on the plugs that join the lower and upper boards.
This can be resolved if you want to relocate the lower board and extent the cables. This would mean that you are no longer able to see your fuel gauge though so you would need an alternative means to display this.
Other options seem to be to hot glue a phone in there. The iPhone is a decent fit as is a Google Pixel 4a 5G.
I also purchase a 7" touch screen for a RPi 4b interface using open auto pro. This screen will fit in the space and avoids the issues of the plugs because the screen is on top of the boards. There is significant shrouding on the edges of the screen and it isn't clear if this can be resolved with config settings through OAP.
The 6.25" screen is a better fit and similar size to the iphone solution but price becomes very similar and it is clear that the OAP solution offers any real benefit over a phone in there.
Phone options include either 3.5mm audio jack to aux in on and after market HU or line level input into amp or a bluetooth solution.
OAP does have a better DAC option for line level inputs into an AMP but costs start to add up.
There is a single Aliexpress option that will provide a frame that is double din compatible but I don't like the look of it and it is still $200USD or there abouts.
