Subwoofer question

I tried to search for some help on this but couldnt find what i wanted.
I have the stock audio unit and speakers in my car. I just want to wire up a powered subwoofer to it. Not really an audio installer but I thought there was a way to wire it to the rear speakers. Any help? thanks guys

There has to be at least 10 threads on this subject here in the NAV and Audio section.

But to really start to help you we need more info on what the system is in the car. Base, HiFi, H/K as all of them will possibly require slightly different wiring.

A place in Santa Clarita CA said they use some sort of JL Audio component specifically designed for MINI to add a sub to the existing stock radio. That is about $400 in parts and labor he said. He said there is a different way, that will be around $125, but did not explain how they did that.
I think they tap into the speaker wire, and run the power to the battery, I can't be sure though

Last year I installed the Infinity Basslink (fits better than the Basslink II) in the boot and am stll very happy with the fit and the sound. The wiring was very easy, install took less than 2 hours and it's non-permanent. Cost around $200 total.
Search Amazon.

That Basslink I believe is for the hi-fi system. I just have the base audio system as I mentioned in my oiginal post. I think the system sounds ok but just needs a bit of punch from a sub.

I installed a BOSS 600 in the spare-wheel well on my clubman. And I paid like $70 !! Wires up where the connector is near your dead pedal/clutch, to the left behind the trim.

I was lookin into a Bazooka amplified bass tube to put into the trunk. Something I can easily unplug and take out if I need the immense trunk space that the Mini has lol.

automan21,

There are a number of options from entry level ones like the BOSS and Infinity Basslink to enclosure-only options all the way up through our solution - http://www.integralaudio.com/index.p...er-system.html. JL Audio makes a stealth box for 2nd gen Coopers, but it doesn't perform as well as ours, can't be removed easily, and costs about twice as much all-in.

Ours is the only option out there that comes with everything you need. We do extensive in-vehicle testing and modeling of our products. We also pride ourselves on our detailed installation instructions - http://www.integralaudio.com/install...C1101S-R56.pdf (feel free to use our instructions even if you don't use our system). Search this board for "Integral Audio" to see what other folks are saying about our system. Take a look at the vendor & product reviews on this site as well.

Be careful and do your research - there is a lot of bad information out there. The MINI is a complicated, highly integrated vehicle and very few shops are aware of the details. Example: you do not want to tap into the rear speakers on your vehicle - frequencies below ~100Hz (all your bass!) are filtered from the rear speakers. There is also a specific way you need to setup/tune your system so that you can reduce distortion in the rest of the system while adding the subwoofer.

We're also finishing up development on our Soundstage upgrades for the front speakers if you decide to upgrade the rest of your system - I think you'll find that once you fix the low-end of your system you'll notice how bad the rest of it is.

Feel free to ping me with questions - either here or send me a PM.
